Testimony: The Incorruptible Seed

Before my salvation, I was indifferent to the things of God. I took pleasure in sin, looking forward each day to my next sinful encounter. Christianity seemed boring at best.
The book of Revelation first came to my attention after a late-night discussion with some friends. I didn't really know much about its contents and purely on a lark, I began to read it from the King James Bible and was fascinated. I couldn't put it down. I read it over and over for six months with no idea of the life-changing power that awaited me in those pages.
Amazingly, I could no longer find it within myself to doubt the existence of God. I could no longer deny that I was a sinner, who was in peril of facing the judgments that I had been reading about in the book of Revelation. The Lord was reaching out from those pages and into my wretched life. When I told a Christian coworker of my Bible-reading experience, he quoted Revelation 3:20 and immediately, I knew that Jesus was knocking for me. All of heaven and earth seemed to stand still in the moment that I said "Yes Lord. I hear you knocking, please come in."
(Then was fulfilled Romans 10:17) So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
It was November 1979, forty years ago that I was saved by reading the word of God. Since then, God has upheld me with His mighty hand in ways that have prevented me from ruining my life and the lives of those close to me. Moreover, He has blessed me in ways I never imagined possible. His ever-present Spirit guides me day by day, not with an audible voice but by bringing verses of scripture to memory. That's how I know when God is speaking to me.
What have I learned from my experience? I have learned that my experience is not the measure of things, God's word is. I sincerely hope that you, gentle reader, will find comfort and guidance through this humble testimony.
(1 Peter 1:23) Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.
