Childhood
I grew up with a strict environment. I always felt insecure, like I didn't fit in. My dad a very talented, intelligent man, a leader. He was a Police Officer. He had a mental breakdown when I was 13-14 years old. It crushed our family. He was institutionalized on several occasions, placed on heavy duty medications, never to be the same again. I became depressed, withdrawn, felt abandoned, etc.
Turned to Drugs
I turned to drugs and alcohol at 17 which progressed into a severe addiction. I overdosed a couple of times, lied, stole, etc. I ended up homeless, living in a run down motel, went to a alcohol/drug rehab center and then a halfway house. I met a person there that I became best friends with. We both moved out about 5 months later. He got married, became a Christian. I moved into a boarding house.
Tragic Events
I was sober but unhappy, often depressed. My friend would witness to my girlfriend and I about Jesus. We both rejected the Gospel. My girlfriend and I broke up. About a year later she was killed in a car accident with two other people. Another friend was killed about 5-6 months later in an industrial accident.
Salvation
I started thinking about my eternal destiny, as my my friend had witnessed to me about. I decided one Sunday morning to go to his church. There was a guest speaker Pastor talking about his troubled childhood and how he came to Christ. He asked in the service "If you were to die in the next 10 minutes, do you know where your soul would go?" I had no idea! They gave an invitation to accept Jesus Christ at the end of the service. I came forward and accepted Jesus.
My Life Was Changed
I got a new girlfriend who was a Christian, went to school and became a Paramedic and still work as one today. I have been married to the same beautiful woman for almost 29 years. I have 2 great sons. God has blessed me with a Ministry opportunity of preaching the Gospel and sharing my testimony with homeless men in rescue missions. It's absolutely amazing what God has done! 2 Corinthians 5:17: Paul said: "Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come." God will reveal himself to you: John 14:21 Jesus said: "He who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love him and show myself to him."
The Answer
Jesus Christ is truly the answer. He will change your life and give you eternal life: Romans 10:9. Nothing in this world can give you that!
