“And pray ye that your flight be not in the winter.”
King James Version (KJV)
13:19 In those days shall be affliction, such as was not from the beginning of the creation - May it not be doubted, whether this be yet fully accomplished? Is not much of this affliction still to come?
13:20 The elect - The Christians: whom he hath chosen - That is, hath taken out of, or separated from, the world, through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth. He hath shortened - That is, will surely shorten.
Mr 13:18 Pray ye that your flight be not in the winter. Matthew adds, "'neither' on the Sabbath day" (Mt 24:20). The reasons for these admonitions to the Jerusalem church are given in the notes on Matthew. The sign given by the Lord for the flight, the environment of the city by the Romans, and the panic that caused their sudden withdrawal, occurred on Tuesday, in October. Hence the flight was neither in the winter, nor on the Sabbath day.
