Luke 16:19-31 tells us a lot about hell. The rich ruler passed over in a conscious state. He had his five senses and it appear his senses was heighten after death. He could see Abraham and Lazarus from a far off. The rich ruler could feel torment, thirst, aware of his location and condition and he had memory of his family. We must share the Gospel - John 3:16
  • JULIUS NKHUWA on Luke 16 - 6 years ago
it is an en riching potion and also spiritually nourishing
  • Dewey J on Luke 16 - 6 years ago
Mary, no it doesn't. The point is the negotiated settlement with his master's debtors which put money or assets immediately in his hands he didn't falsify the bills he merely made a better deal for his master and his debtors after he had stolen from him. Jesus is encouraging Christians to imitate the wisdom of the steward working with the people to get his master some assets back v8. Glorify God!
  • Mary on Luke 16 - 6 years ago
It is confusing, why did the lord commend the unjust servant? Does this mean the master thought that he was wise in falsifying his bills? Don't understand.
  • Andrea Brown on Luke 16 - 6 years ago
There is no time that the law and prophets stop speaking to us. They continue to speak to this day. According to Romans 12:4 whatsoever things were written afore time was written for our learning. That we through faith and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.
  • Randy on Luke 16 - 6 years ago
I agree with Eutychu. After John, we are no longer controlled by the law. Jesus has been teaching this thru the gospels. When Jesus was crucified, God tore ths temple vail to show. Paul emphasizing the thru the book of Galations. We are now new creations controlled by the holy spirit.

The lake of fire is reserved for the devil and the antichrist first, and then all those whose names are not found written in the Book of Life at the Judgment Day ( Revelation 20).

Jason: And Whosoever was not found Written in The Book of Life was cast into The Lake of Fire. Revelation 20:15
  • Jason lockhart on Luke 16 - 6 years ago
does sinners go to the lake of fire when they die?
  • A disciple on Luke 16 - 6 years ago
Okay; which Scriptures of the Prophets in particular, "No longer speak to us?" That is an error and ignorance of the eternal authority and purpose of ALL OF GOD'S WORDS! Things that are harder to understand we need to grow in grace and maturity for the Lord to show us, "as we are able to hear it." Paul said some things that seem to contradict what Jesus said, but the lack is in our understanding.
  • Eutychus on Luke 16 - 6 years ago
Vs. 16."The law and the prophets were until John: since that time the kingdom of God is preached, and every man presseth into it." We can define the point in time, when the OT stopped speaking to us ( Heb 1:1-2). It was John. Matt 11:13 says, "For all the prophets and the law prophesied UNTIL JOHN". Since John, we have been spoken to by our Lord Jesus Christ, through the Holy Spirit, and the Word.

Verse 9: We can not buy our friendship with Jehovah God and Jesus Christ, but by using our material assets to further Kingdom interests, we prove our friendship and love not just in word, but also by our actions.

There are two sides of the gulf. meaning two sides of heaven.
  • Peter A. Okebukola on Luke 16 - 7 years ago
There is no repentance after death. After death, the judgement. It is wise, therefore, that we strive to earn a place in the Lord's Kingdom by being true to His divine will while here on earth.

What does it mean to " write eighty". Does it mean he paid eighty in which case he would be out of the rich mans debt and therefore reunited with him because he is no longer subservient to his debt. Is this possibly a statement that the manager has performed his intended task of reuniting the rich master and his debtors.
  • Phemmy on Luke 16:29 - 9 years ago
Unto Abraham, were given the 10 commandments. The law of God. Written by God's own hand in the plan of Salvation. He handed it to moses, and moses handed it to the people. The people who are us. The prophets told of God's ppl who will die because of ignorance. They told of a Messiah to save the world. But, We have put aside The Law of God. If only we could embrace The Law and keep the Faith of Jesus, then Salvation will sure come unto us.

It teaches us that u can be praised on earth because of the things you have, while ignoring the word of God, doing things against the will of God,,,,, the day you leave the earth you will be the last, you will not be treated as a king as u were in earth
  • Q Williams on Luke 16 - 9 years ago
I agree with Biblefan! The Holy Scriptures has a lot of symbols that God will discern to us, if we are not so quick to question a passage that "seems " like it contradicts another. I feel this has to do with our Spiritual life and that we have a choice to be filled with the HOLY SPIRIT or we can chose to ignore what it is saying to us, before it is too late ! once we have made that choice there 's no turning back repenting or being prayed out of eternity! Jesus wants us to serving Him now, because he cant help us once we go into eternity! So, none of God 's WORD disputes another...Pray for discernment of God 's WORD...

  • Halyoonda Solomon on Luke 16 - 9 years ago
Anyone preaching some kind of a second chance 19-31 after death is a great deceiver. Salvation is now, actually today. This means we need to die saved and living saved whether we are rich 'poor, educated, uneducated, health or sick with any kind of diseases. The other point is that there is nothing inherently evil in riches and something inescapably good in being poor. We are ALL saved and judged by our attitude today and now to Jesus Christ.
  • Biblefan on Luke 16 - 9 years ago
the unfaithful steward may actually be a picture of Jesus himself --- humanity in general could be the debtors and jesus the debt collector --- we are reconciled to god by paying some of what we owe knowing that we fall short of paying in full
  • Lenora on Luke 16 - 9 years ago
This talks about a place to me that I surely would not want to end up, and those of us that want to be saved should take heed to this warning! Jesus is the only redeemer, only he can save us from torment and the only thing we have to do is ask him and follow him.
