Evangelist Andrew Kelly on Genesis 5 - 7 years ago
We are now to be the image of the Son of God. After Adam and Eve man are a mom and dad creation we are gods we can create do good and evil. We are now the image of God only through his Son our Lord Jesus Christ.
Romans 8:29] For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.
BSP; what makes you think, that "made in God's image and likeness," doesn't mean we look like Him? Of course we look like Him! The only one who doesn't want men to look like God, is the one who wants himself to sit in the place of God on His throne instead! Man is the replication of God; He is our Father in heaven; and children look like their parents! We shall see Him as He and shall be like Him.
Hi Cheryl; A couple things that should help you understand these parts better. The Lamech who had two wives was a descendant of Cain, a different man altogether from Noah's father who was from the line of Shem, and lived some time later. It is interesting, when you add up the years, the flood happened in 1656 after Creation, the same year that Methuselah died.
Lamech disobeyed God in having more than one wife. The 2 shall become one flesh is not 3. Nor is it loving God, the women or Lameh. If God is Love and we are to imitate Him as dearly loved children as the Holy Bible says, 1=1! Perhaps Lamech repented of it afterwards and God allowed in His mercy Lamech to have Noah as his child because he repented or because he had a good wife and did it for her.
Genesis 5:1 And Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bare Cain, and said, I have gotten a man from the LORD.
2 And she again bare his brother Abel. And Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground.
It doesn't say and Abel was not Adams child anywhere on here.
Mary, 1 10 17, Gen. ch.5 Quote - "And Cain is not mentioned because Adam was not his father and Abel was not mentioned because he was killed by his paternal brother Cain." unquote. If Abel was his paternal bro., then how can Adam NOT be Cain's father?
Irene; I was speaking to someone who called himself, (or, herself), "Prophet." My post didn't show up for some time; that's why it seems not to fit anything. This person was saying that Satan was at one time a son of God, and equal to Jesus: that is utterly false and blasphemy! As I wrote; and I'm sure every Christian must agree; only the devil has ever said or thought that he was equal to God.
prophet (?) The Son of God is NOT a created being! Satan was never a son; but from the day he was created, he was found full of lies and pride and wickedness. Only the devil himself ever says that he was equal to Jesus: that's a lie, from the father of lies, who has NEVER stood in the truth, because there is no truth in him. Also beware! he who says Jesus has an unclean spirit, CANNOT be forgiven!
FALSE "Prophet" you speak lies; as if you'd make the Lord of glory a created thing, and equal to the devil! How dare you come on this site, and say such blasphemy?
I am so sorry about my answer to Cheryl 2 mos. ago. It was King James scholars, ministers he appointed that God directed to set the cannon of the Bible. Why I said Constantine - I have no idea. Constantine has been credited with helping to influence the doctrine of the trinity. King J. was 1611 a.d.; Constantine was 325 a.d.
I don't know how your understanding Gods creation of man was nothing but clay, all our bodies go back to dust. And Cain is not mentioned because Adam was not his father and Able was not mentioned because he was killed by his paternal brother Cain.
It seems to me, Chapter 5 glosses over thousands of years of history as if it were meaningless. Weren't the lavish, sloth sins of humans who lived for so ridiculously long the reason for the flood? Why is the flood not considered genocide????
To Cheryl on Constantine - Your query is reflective of Zacharia's in Lk. 1:18-20. God is sovereign and He is His word ( Jn. 1:1). He directed Constantine in the books to be included - along with others; Constantine didn't do it all by himself.
Cain and Able are not included b/c this is the lineage of Jesus Christ all the way back to Adam. God's seed that will bruise the head, of satan and thou shalt bruise his heel Gen 3 God's promise. The Bible tells the story of the redemption of a sinful people and a loving God who had and has grace and mercy toward His creation. Everything leads back to Jesus b/c He is the Savior hope this helps.
The Book of Enoch? Moses made no mention of it, when "I AM" gave him to write the Book of the Beginnings, and the Law. Jude apparently quoted a passage from that book, about the Day of the LORD; but the rest doesn't feel like scripture at all! Was it a single Spirit-inspired word originally, then afterward added to an otherwise human spirit-inspired book? Was any of it actually around before then.
In the world of the beginning, the LORD was careful that Moses wrote precisely all things; and the number of the years of the holy Ancients, was not a mistake, or something other than we exactly read it! As the Lord said to Peter about John; "If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to you? You follow me." If God willed it for men to live 900 years, who is any man to question His power?
