    Israel was told from the beginning, what would happen if they broke covenant with God; but they pushed Him, and pushed Him, with their defiance, and sinning, and whoring after the ways of the heathen, till there was no remedy. Jeremiah wrote, that if God had begun to punish the city which is called by His Name, and His own people; He would certainly also do the same to the nations for their sins.
