Tithing is the most controversial thing in the church today. Nobody wants to go broke giving a tithe. The Old Testament can give us a guide line, but it was given to the Jews to follow.

    Deuteronomy 14:23

And thou shalt eat before the Lord thy God, in the place which he shall choose to place his name there, the tithe of thy corn, of thy wine, and of thine oil, and the firstlings of thy herds and of thy flocks; that thou mayest learn to fear the Lord thy God always.

The Jews were to follow the law to tithe.

    Hebrews 7:5

And verily they that are of the sons of Levi, who receive the office of the priesthood, have a commandment to take tithes of the people according to the law, that is, of their brethren, though they come out of the loins of Abraham

Churches will use this verse to make people feel guilty of Tithing.

    Malachi 3:8-10

Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings. Ye are cursed with a curse: for ye have robbed me, even this whole nation. Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.

Apostle Paul teaches us that the Old Testament and the four gospels are for learning because Jesus Christ had completed His mission and nailed the Law on the cross and all our sins .

    Romans 15:4

For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for ourlearning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.

The New Testament teaches us how to give a offering by the heart, without madness and anger in the Lord Jesus Christ. Apostle Paul teaches us how to give without the law.

    2 Corinthians 9:7

Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.

Ray, in Christ Jesus 1 Corinthi
