There are many interpretations of scripture and a plethora of church denominations. When we read and study the Bible, we can arrive at different conclusions. It might be that we are not ready to receive the answer as Paul mentioned in 1 Corinthians 3:2, or it might be that we are clinging to preconceived notions instead of approaching the text with an open mind and fresh eyes. We should set aside our interpretations and seek the guidance of the Holy Spirit, rather than relying solely on our understanding, as advised in Proverbs 3:5.
We should approach Scripture with the curiosity and wonder of a child as if we are reading it for the first time. It is essential to read the Word of God with humility, acknowledging that we have much to learn. When God provided bread to the Israelites, they named it "Manna," which means "What is it?" This should be our mindset when we read Scripture-praying, "What is it?" We must strive to understand its message, be eager for the truth, and rejoice when it is revealed.
We must carefully follow the text, avoiding preconceived ideas and allowing it to reveal its meaning. If we impose our interpretations onto the text, we may alter its intended meaning and not see it. We must have eyes to see and ears to hear.
This is just for fun, but it could also be eye-opening.
We've all heard the expression, "You can't see the forest for the trees." Imagine someone standing in front of a forest, trying to appreciate its beauty but unable to do so because the trees are blocking their view. While it may seem simplistic, this analogy illustrates how our subconscious mind operates. We all have preconceived notions that can overshadow our understanding of what we are reading.
When asked how many of each type of animal went into the ark with Noah, many people will say there were two of each, one male and one female. However, that is not what Scripture states.
I also believe there were dinosaurs on the ark or perhaps their eggs.
As for the number pattern.
Of the unclean Noah was asked to take of every living thing of all flesh, "TWO OF EVERY SORT" shalt thou bring into the ark, I consider that a pair. (Only 2.) "they shall be male and female".
Of every clean beast Noah was asked to take to thee by sevens, the male and his female. I believe that to be 7 pair's. 14 in all for each clean species.
Noah was asked of the fowls also of the air by sevens, the male and the female; to keep seed alive upon the face of all the earth.I also see that as 7 pairs equalling 14.
I don't believe them or the animals eating was a big problem for the Lord. Who knows?
They may have ate nothing, God is capable of suspending their need for food.
Here's what I have on how many of each type of animal went into the ark with Noah,
In Genesis 6:19 it reads "And of every living thing of all flesh, two of every sort shalt thou bring into the ark, to keep them alive with thee; they shall be male and female.
Genesis 7:2-3 reads "Of every clean beast thou shalt take to thee by sevens, the male and his female: and of beasts that are not clean by two, the male and his female.
Of fowls also of the air by sevens, the male and the female; to keep seed alive upon the face of all the earth.
So, was there two of each animal or seven of each animal that were to be brought to the ark?
The seven of each animal were clean animals-to be used for sacrifice as well as for food.
The remainder of the animals that went to the ark included a male and a female.
This is explained in Genesis 7:8-9. "Of clean beasts, and of beasts that are not clean, and of fowls, and of every thing that creepeth upon the earth,
There went in two and two unto Noah into the ark, the male and the female, as God had commanded Noah."
This is what I've gathered from Scripture and the only way I have heard it explained.
Preconceived notions doesn't always come from denominations and man's tradition passed down over the years. It can come from self ambition and bad hermeneutics.
However you can certainly hinder your spiritual growth and understanding if you solely rely on clippings of the early church and internet findings. (NOT SAYING IT'S ALL BAD) But that's not feeding and studying the word. It's studying history.
AGAIN, It's not bad to know the history but it's not to be a substitute or an atlas to the truth in the word of God.
There has been division in the church on several topics since the Apostles. Paul speaks of this in Acts 20:39-30.
Thanks, brother. Seeing all those birds and animals coming to the ark must have been amazing. It's just me, but I think Dinosaurs were part of the animals. We see some pretty large critters in Job. The way I see the number of animals whether I am right or wrong, the clean animals would be 14 total for each species, 7 males and 7 females. The unclean would be 4 total for each species 2 males and 2 females and the birds 14 total for each species 7 males and 7 females, and we know 8 people.
If there were just two each Noah would have caused extinction when he sacrificed one of each of the clean animals, Genesis 8:20. Another thing I wonder is, the earth had been covered in water for about a year and the second time Noah sent the dove out she brought back an olive leaf plucked off. Did God replenish the earth like on day 3?
I did not mean that most preconceived notions came from the different denominations. I agree it is good to know the history but I am with you Scriptures, along with the Holy Spirit should be our only source of truth. Our subconscious mind is great because we operate 90 percent with it. Most of what we do is learned and stored in our minds and without thought we do most of the things we do.
Our subconscious mind is what we must shut down when we study, it is like a computer it moves at light speed and can block what we are reading without us even knowing it with a preconceived notion we have printed in our mind. It takes a conscious effort to clear our minds of everything we think we know about a subject before we read and study and naturally with prayer.
I know my understanding of parts of Scripture has changed over the years and since being on this site. We just need to be open to it, like Jesus said "Who hath ears to hear, let him hear."
Ronald Whittemore, I like what you wrote. All I can think of is one verse that Peter wrote.
2 Peter 1:20-21
20. Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of anyprivateinterpretation.
21. For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.
Now that we understand what Peter wrote . Apostle Paul wrote this verse to Timothy and I like it.
2 Timothy 2:15
Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
You're right about different churches and different ways of believing, but the fundamental of Salvation should be clean cut, Jesus Christ died on the cross for all our sins and was buried and rose again the third day according to the scriptures . 1 Corinthians 15:1-4
Ronald Whittemore, you're welcome, if there's one chapter to do a Bible study on, it would be 2 Thessalonians 2 . I find that there's so many interpretation of 2 Thessalonians 2:3 by so many pastors, teachers and Christians. That word " falling away " really throws people off. I try to keep it right where it is. My example of the falling away would be the wild olive branch in Romans chapter 11. I would love to hear your point of view if you have the time.
Ray, in Christ Jesus 1CORINTHIANS 15:1-4 my gospel of Salvation
The term "falling away" comes from the Greek word "apostasia," which translates to apostasy, rebellion, defection, or revolt. In the Old Testament, the Hebrew word "meshubah" refers to backsliding or turning away. You mentioned Romans 11 regarding the wild olive branch, and I understand that this could be related to the falling away or apostasy that is expected to occur at the end times.
In 2 Thessalonians, Paul writes about the coming of our Lord Jesus and states that this will not happen until two events occur: the falling away and the revelation of the "son of perdition." Different interpretations of these events lead to varying understandings of the end times. I see this apostasia referenced in Revelation 13:11-18.
I can get back to you on Wednesday if this is short.
I know you're busy, please respond when you can, thank you.
Israel just didn't want to believe that Jesus was in there mist and denied that he was there Messiah, the King of the Jews.
Romans 11:25
For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; thatblindness in partishappened toIsrael, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in.
People today don't want to believe that Jesus Christ sent Apostle Paul to the Gentiles to spread the Gospel of Grace in all his epistles. Romans 11:17
And if some of the branches be broken off, and thou, being a wild olive tree, wertgraftedin among them, and with them partakest of the root and fatness of the olive tree;
The Gentiles will get cut off the Olive tree that was grafted in by being the wild olive branch.
Romans 11:18
Boast not against the branches. But if thou boast, thou bearest not the root, but the root thee.
I believe all three fits in 2 Thessalonians 3 " falling away " , " Apostasy", and "Departure "
1. Falling away = wild olive branch that will crumble just before the 7 year tribulation begins.
2. Apostasy = Jews being deceived by the Antichrist in the 7 year Tribulation.
3. Departure = Rapture before the 7 year tribulation.
2 Thessalonians 2:3
Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come afallingawayfirst, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;
I believe that the Gentiles will be full in the Body of Christ and there will be a falling away of the wild olive branch ( Gentiles) then the Rapture will happen like the departure and Apostasy, the Antichrist will appear.
Remember when Israel felled .
Romans 11:12
Now ifthefallofthem betherichesoftheworld, andthediminishingofthemtherichesoftheGentiles; how much moretheirfulness?
If there is a remnant of Jew believers, then there is a remnant of Christian believers and that is super small amount on earth .
I would like to share my understanding, but please pray and study to find the truth you seek. The breaking off of the branches was necessary to graft in the wild branches, representing the Gentiles. This mystery relates to the temporary blindness of the Israelites until the fullness of the Gentiles comes in, as mentioned in Romans 11:11 and Romans 11:25. It's important to note that this blindness is not permanent. This goes back to the promise God made to Abraham, in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed, that seed is Jesus.
Just to say this was not all the house of Israel as we see the Church began with Jews, to the Jews first. It was not until the leaders of Jerusalem shut their ears to Jesus and killed Stephen was the gospel sent to the Gentiles, Acts 7:54-60, and still many Jews believed in Jesus. They were broken off because of unbelief, we must stand by faith and not be arrogant.
I don't view the Gentiles as a group being cut off; rather, it's each individual who faces such a fate. There will come a time when the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled. The falling away will occur among those believers who lack strength in their faith and who are unable to endure until the end.
Dear brother, I do not believe in the rapture as taught with the taking up the Church, and the seven years. You must pray and study for your understanding without preconceived ideas relying on the Holy Spirit not man. Study where the 7 years come from, and study 1 Thessalonians 4 with prayer asking what are the people concerned about. When Jesus returns and people meet Him in the air where is the destination?
God bless your study, trust in God, He will show you the truth, not man.
Ronald Whittemore, thanks for your input in how the Bible is layout by you. Just think about this. If 8 people were saved on Noah's Ark, then how many people are going to find the truth of God's Word in this world ? God used, Noah, God used Abraham, God used Isaiah, God used Peter and God used Apostle Paul and all these people are men in the Bible led by Holy Spirit. Right now, as you said God's not dealing with Israel with the promises and covenants, but dealing with the whole world mainly Gentiles ( you and I) , so God pick a man named Apostle Paul for us today . After we are lifted up in the air to meet Jesus Christ, then God will go back to dealing with the Jews again. I think it's called the gap of the grace age church. The Bible is very simple to understand, that a 8 year old can understand. God made the plan of Salvation cut and dry. 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 the resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ plus nothing else. Believe and be saved, no works, it's a free gived.
Ronald Whittemore, this is a free country to believe how ever we want. Thank God it wasn't taken away. I am in the Body of Christ Jesus and will share the good news.
Our priority is to share the gospel to the lost that don't understand God's word for Salvation. Jesus Christ paid it all for the whole world, all we do with faith is believe his finished work.
Ronald Whittemore, you're probably a smart bright person with all the decrees, but the twelve Disiples were common people that walked with God. God will use men and women for his honor and glory to spread the Gospel of Grace that was given to Apostle Paul then the Disciples.
Let's all rejoice in Love for Jesus Christ sake and put aside our differences of beliefs and traditions. Jesus Christ is the word and that should only matter.
May God bless you and open your understanding to greater things in the Bible in peace and Love.
Ray, in Christ Jesus 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 the gospel that is simple to understand
Ronald Whittemore, thanks for the information. I have heard it like that too. The Bible is very interesting and God will reveal when He wants to. We all know that Jesus Christ is coming..... I'm always looking in the clouds
Have a great day.
