    Biblical Greek Perspective

    (Acts Part 61):

Acts 28:11 - And after three months we departed in a ship of Alexandria, which had wintered in the isle, whose sign was Castor and Pollux.

The Greek text does not say "Castor and Pollux." DIOSKOUROIS means twins. You might wonder where we get Castor and Pollux out of that. Well, it's actually a translation or interpretation.

The text actually says the twins were an ensign on the ship. And what they would do is they would put these ensigns at the front of the ship, and sometimes you see it in pictures where the front of the ship will extend out and there will be pictures on the side of various things that they would call good luck charms or gods.

But the twins that they are talking about, the King James tells us their names. Castor and Pollux are said to be twins of Zeus, the head god in Greek mythology, and that they are alongside to bring good luck to the sailors.

So that's why we have the names in our English text. And those two names are also part of the constellation Gemini, along with Greek mythology, and they work their way into that. That's where that comes from.

So, after three months, they took a ship of Alexandria. The sign on the ship shows us that they had the twins on there for sailing safety purposes, at least to watch over them as they sailed.

    (Acts Part 62):

Acts 28:27 - For the heart of this people is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes have they closed; lest they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.

For the heart of this people is waxed gross (literally fat, insensitive), and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.

In other words, they're going to hear it, but they are not going to understand because their hearts are hardened, therefore I will not allow them to understand.

This is all I have to share on the book of Acts. I will be going through Romans next as I continue on in this study from a biblical Greek perspective.

Blessings to you all in Christ Jesus!

Thanks brother Jesse for another great informative series, now in the Book of Acts. It certainly reminds me of the necessary gifts the Spirit has given to His Church to teach & build up the saints in both the Word of God, in faith & in Christian living. My reading of the NT has certainly taken a new turn (in understanding & appreciation), even though I will still continue with the KJB as the best & most faithful to the TR. Blessings to you brother & the Lord empower you as you continue to progress in the NT for us.
