    Q&A "144,000 Sealed"

Q: "Between breaking open the book and the number sealed, and the sounding of trumpets we have saints redeemed from the earth. This is still in the mind of God. What do they represent?"

A: You referred Re.7:1. The next verse makes clear:"And I saw another angel ascending from the east, having the seal of the living God." The same seal with which the book was sealed calls all those who are foreknown according to his purpose. St Paul annotates it as thus,"Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will."(Ep.1:5). The elders also refer to it,"For thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created."(4:11)

As the Lamb opens the seven seals sequentially, it is simultaneously setting the everlasting covenant in motion, so creation of heaven gathering of seas from dry land life forms are seeded with the word of God. Consequently the wind should hold still, :Hurt not the earth, neither the sea, nor the trees, till we have sealed the servants of our God in their foreheads."(v.3)

The number,"an hundred and forty and four thousand of all the tribes of the children of Israel" is in the same sense as the whole house of Israel, in the vision of Dry bones where "these bones are the whole house of Israel" (Ez.37:11) Without being connected to Jesus Christ the word made flesh, it is meaningless.

The passage in vv.9-12 "After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb;" is the conclusion of the passage beginning in ch.5:9," And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation." These serves as book-ends. This is about the saints redeemed from the earth.
