It is not a matter of one's own will but rather a matter of who rules?
"The body is dead because of sin." It is still subject to sin and death but it has in Christ and by Him been redeemed .
It is written " Let not sin RULE in your mortal body " if sin rules you will obey and be a servant of it . Bwhioe the body is dead because of sin ,if the same Spirit that raised Christ Jesus from the dead dwell in you ,He shall quicken yiur mortal body" and in another place " if we walk not after the flesh but after the Spirit we will not fulfill the lusts of the flesh"
Thus if Christ rules you will obey Him for your will is to do His will for you are in free submission to the Lawfull and rightful king .
It is not a sin to be tempted but all temptations are from whatever direction they come from and from whatever points of the compass are designed to have a chiod of God walk after the flesh. Jesus was not tempted with every sin all men have ever been tempted with but was " tempted in all points" tye lust of the eye the lust of the flesh ,the pride of life and the lust of the mind .
And while in the beginning it was the devil whispering in his ear " if thou be the Son of God.." at the end it was men saying it at Calvary . For the devil only left Him "for a season.".
If we are true born children of God " sin shall have no more dominion over yiu" for we are no longer under the law of sin and death " but the law of Christ
Let Christ dwell in yiur hearts by faith and rule as rightful King and Saviour and sin loses its power and it's not yiu fighting lane and by your own will ( you will lose) but in submission to Christ " go and sin no more" .
It is a matter of being under the rule of Christ that we will submit to obedience to Him, our God and King, or being under the rule of sin when one would submit to it's dominion. Thank God He has given us the victory in Christ Jesus.
As unbelievers, we could not submit to God, but will be in bondage to sin as long was we are unregenerate. But as believers, we can live for God in the righteousness of Christ and we can deny the sinful nature with the power of His death and resurrection.
