"And thou shalt make an hanging for the door of the tent, of blue, and purple, and scarlet, and fine twined linen, wrought with needlework."
The same linen wrought with needlework where colours signified holiness of God at the door was within as well. "ten curtains of fine twined linen, and blue, and purple, and scarlet: with cherubims of cunning work shalt thou make them."(v.1) The vail separating the Most holy from the holy place was similarly adorned."And thou shalt make a vail of blue, and purple, and scarlet, and fine twined linen of cunning work: with cherubims shall it be made."(v.31) Purple colour indicated Christ as the king of kings while the scarlet thread traced the redemptive aspect of the Word become flesh. Isaiah inspired y the Spirit sums it as thus:"though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool."(Is.1:18) It is in this sense the Spirit has employed the colour in the birth of twins of Tamar, and later in the saving of Rahab the harlot.(He.11:31)
Again to quote from Gill, "for it ( the vail) was made of thread six times doubled, and was four fingers thick, as the Jewish writers say: this vail may represent the sin of man, which separates between God and man, was removed by the death of Christ when the vail was rent, and so the way to heaven opened." We can say with certainty of the indwelling Spirit the rent in the vail establishes him as the way. "Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need."(He.4:16)
"Wrought with needlework" explains the work was seen only one side. This marks the difference between the curtain of v.1 and v.36.
