"And cast ye the unprofitable servant into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth."
In v.20 we have the servant telling, "Lord, thou deliveredst unto me five talents: behold, I have gained beside them five talents more," and he gained twice as much because he put the talents entrusted with him according to his ability and also as though his master in him did operate.
On example is, "For she hath received of the Lord's hand double for all her sins." (Is.40:2b)
This 'double' we find mentioned in several places, In 2 Ki.2 we have a clear exposition as to the role of the world of the Spirit on our here-and-now world. Before Elijah departs this world Elisha asked a favor from his mentor, "And Elisha said, I pray thee, let a double portion of thy spirit be upon me," which was not Elijah by birthright but the Spirit of Christ working in Elijah the man. The double portion was of the holy angel, as witness for Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ coming in glory with his holy angels is another way of stating it. The Spirit while organising the God document found it necessary to introduce this walk of Elisha with his mentor.
"When the Lord would take up Elijah into heaven by a whirlwind, that Elijah went with Elisha from Gilgal." (2 Ki.2:1) Notice that the Spirit does not refer it to physical death but how its understood in the world of the Spirit. For the same reason the sons of the prophets have nothing to do with their profession but signify the holy angels, spiritual counterparts, may be a better term, and they are ware whether at Gilgal, or at Bethel or at Jericho what significance is attached to crossing the Jordan entails.
At each of these place the sons of the prophets speak the same message. After all they behold the face of the Father in heaven. ("Their angels do always behold the face of my Father which is in heaven-Matt.18:10)"
