Thirdly when God is pleased with his motives it is God who directs his way. "A man's heart deviseth his way: but the Lord directeth his steps. It is how God opens the ear of the willing. "And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left (Is.30:21)". It is a highway. "And an highway shall be there, and a way, and it shall be called The way of holiness; the unclean shall not pass over it; but it shall be for those: the wayfaring men, though fools, shall not err therein (Is.35:8)". In his humility God sets the example of his Son so the foolish have become wise under his charge. Isaiah gives us a good description of the way Jesus Christ took.
"The Lord God hath given me the tongue of the learned, that I should know how to speak a word in season to him that is weary: he wakeneth morning by morning, he wakeneth mine ear to hear as the learned./ The Lord God hath opened mine ear, and I was not rebellious, neither turned away back.6 I gave my back to the smiters, and my cheeks to them that plucked off the hair: I hid not my face from shame and spitting./ For the Lord God will help me; therefore shall I not be confounded: therefore have I set my face like a flint, and I know that I shall not be ashamed." (Is.50:4-7).
