If it was an issue with Cain, Seth would have had the same issue!
Adam and Eve was told to multiply the earth.
We don't know how many siblings they had by the time Cain left from the presence of the LORD.
It seems in Genesis 4:14 there were other siblings already born.
"Behold, thou hast driven me out this day from the face of the earth; and from thy face shall I be hid; and I shall be a fugitive and a vagabond in the earth; and it shall come to pass, that EVERY ONE THAT FINDETH ME SHALL SLAY ME."
The key to the controversy is in Genesis 4:16-17 "And Cain went out from the presence of the LORD, AND DWELT IN THE LAND OF NOD, on the east of Eden.
AND CAIN KNEW HIS WIFE; and she conceived, and bare Enoch: and he builded a city, and called the name of the city, after the name of his son, Enoch."
An often asked question is did Cain get his wife from the land of Nod?
The scripture doesn't say that.
It says
"And Cain went out from the presence of the Lord, and dwelt in the land of Nod and Cain knew his wife.
It appears Cain was already with a wife BEFORE he went out from the presence of the LORD.
And Adam called his wife's name Eve; because she was the mother of all living.
God created only two people Adam and eve, they populated and gave birth to kids and Cain married his sister and more kids ware born and population expanded like that
I believe that you are correct Duncan . It seems quite simple but sometimes people , including myself , are phased by simplicity and think that things must be more complex . I think that's it's so important to keep things in context . If there's something you don't understand in the Bible , just keep reading . All the answers and explanations are in there .
We get that question a lot.
The same question can be asked about Seth.

I hope this helps.
God bless.
Interesting "Adam" transliteration, means mankind Genesis 5:2,
Hopefully these are helpful
I think there's 3 possibilities commonly mentioned:
1. Eve had more children and one of Cain's sisters (or other relative) became his wife?
2. God created more people but it just wasn't stated (such as from the land of Nod)?
3. Eve herself acted as Cain's wife?
And Adam called his wife's name Eve; because she was the mother of all living.
God created only two people Adam and eve, they populated and gave birth to kids and Cain married his sister and more kids ware born and population expanded like that
GOD never temps us to sin, James 1:13,
Genesis 5:2, Genesis 1:26,27 made Male & female
Genesis 4, seems to clearly prove there were many other people to "subdue the Earth" & "have dominion" Genesis 1:28,
Hopefully these are helpful
