What is the reason for preachers avoiding the book of Revelation?
  • D W L - In Reply on 2 Timothy 3 - 2 years ago
1 Corinthians 13:12 For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known. ( Paul didn't say he knew it all) I really doubt anyone else does.

Revelation 1:9 I John, who also am your brother, and companion in tribulation, and in the kingdom and patience of Jesus Christ, was in the isle that is called Patmos, for the word of God, and for the testimony of Jesus Christ.

10 (I was in the Spirit on the Lord's day), and heard behind me a great voice, as of a trumpet,

Was in the Spirit of the Lord and writing what he was told. So many have tried but have been wrong.

You would probably have to ask each person their reasonings. However, most denominations have a council they need to answer to, and the end times myth is part of the false doctrine they adhere to. Besides that, it is extremely profitable to tickle people's ears of "THE" antichrist, 7-year tribulation, etc. If they taught the book of Revelation as what it really is, a warning to seven churches before the destruction of the Jewish temple, Jerusalem, and Israel in AD70, is not as exciting unless you are a history buff or really want the truth about Revelation. Most seminaries and bible colleges teach this end-time myth from the 15th century, started by a Jesuit Priest who the Roman religion selected to create the doctrine from the Council of Trent. The Reformers had misidentified the Pope and priesthood as "THE" antichrist and whore of Babylon, and therefore directed this doctrine to push out to the end-times to take the pressure off the Roman religion.

Preachers avoid the book of Revelation because Christianity as a whole has moved to the allegorical interpretation of the Bible.

Preachers learned to spiritualize the Bible in seminary.

    Please consider this:

Every prophet in the OT speaks of 2 things coming in the future:

    1. The wrath of God

    2. The kingdom of God

This is the bulk of all OT prophecy. (I would suggest a read through Isaiah and Zechariah as a start)

Revelation is a revealing of these 2 things.

Since preachers spiritualize these things they don't know how to handle the truths laid out in Revelation.

The book IS understandable and IS a vision of the 2 doctrines laid out above.

You have God's judgment on Israel for their continued disobedience and God's setting up the earthly Kingdom that was promised to Israel all throughout the OT.

Preachers are taught today that Jesus is "ruling and reigning in our hearts" or the allegorical interpretation of God's promises to Israel.

Choose to believe the Bible literally and rightly divide the scriptures and Revelation can and does make sense.

II Tim 2:15 requires us to study it ALL.

The book would not be in there if we could not understand it.

You must study the book of Daniel alongside (or before) the book of revelation.

If ref to AD 70 being the fulfillment of Revelation.

There are hundreds of specific prophecies that do not jive with the destruction in AD 70.

This position is also a spiritualized interpretation of scripture to get rid of the kingdom for Israel and give it to the church today.

Revelation is to be taken just like you take every other verse in the Bible; literally

Jesus eventually marries Israel the New Jerusalem in Rev 21 just like all the OT says he will. (See Hosea just for one example)

Great question, and one millions of other Christians should be asking themselves.

Dear Steve, let me remind you of Galatians 4:22-28

"For it is written, that Abraham had two sons, the one by a bondmaid, the other by a freewoman.

But he who was of the bondwoman was born after the flesh; but he of the freewoman was by promise.

Which things are an ALLEGORY: for these are the two covenants; the one from the mount Sinai, which gendereth to bondage, which is Agar.

For this Agar is mount Sinai in Arabia, and answereth to Jerusalem which now is, and is in bondage with her children.

But JERUSALEM WHICH IS ABOVE IS FREE, WHICH IS THE MOTHER OF US ALL

For it is written, Rejoice, thou barren that bearest not; break forth and cry, thou that travailest not: for the desolate hath many more children than she which hath an husband.

NOW WE, BRETHREN, AS ISAAC WAS, ARE THE CHILDREN OF PROMISE"

You are right that not everything in OT is an allegory for NT, but this specific one about Jerusalem is.

501c3 church's are not allowed to honestly interpret Revelations as being about the destruction of Jerusalem in 70 A.D. there only allowed to interpret it as unfulfilled prophecy of end times and Israel futurism

When you mixed religion and government you will find the exact situation we are in today. Chaos. Using 501c you are bound by the law of government who can control what the truth really is. Like one believer said we are all mature enough to find truth in Jesus Christ. Promoting an old way has not worked in the past, why push it? Fallacies are in ALL Religious Christianity, and they had all been perverted. For only with thine eyes shall thou behold and see the reward of the wicked. Psalm 91. Trust the Lord Jesus Christ and He will surely guide you. Read the Bible yourself and pray. Be saved 1 Corinthians 15:1-4. Seek God and His righteous faith. We sure have angels around us. You will know them.

Time is perilous indeed. Thanks to I think Michael who directed us to YouTube Watchman with Erik. Love it. Now a days you cannot even trust any news. This one is reliable. God help us. Agape.

Hello, All mature Christians should be familiar enough with the scriptures to see familiar symbols as expressed in Daniel and Revelation and let God unveil Jesus Christ in them. Often some scriptures may not be in chronological order especially of a vision and may even require some understanding of history, as you mentioned of the destruction of Jerusalem.

    Dear Steve

Nobody is certain about the actual interpretation of this Book. So they avoid mentioning details about the future events. Maybe some general things but not a detailed account of the future happenings.
