I have a sister who says that Jesus was not a Jew. Is there any scripture in Bible that says he was a Jew. She says that the lineage says it but she doesn't believe that he had the blood of a Jew running through his veins.

Isaiah 53, Luke 1, Luke 2, Luke 3, whole chapters

    Zechariah 13:6,

My question back, is why does she feel this way? anti-Semitic thought sometimes were thought because of the crucifixion. Sometimes for love towards Jesus & sad for His suffering, If someone doesn't read deeper to see Jesus came to his own, wounded by his own. For all mankind & HE forgave even them. John 4:9, Luke 23:34, Luke 6:37, Romans 1:16,

Other good scriptures were given by other answers.

It may be a good start to find out why it's important to her to believe that. Finding the root, sometimes helps better answer questions.

    Hopefully these are helpful

    Hi Bonnie,

The words Jew and Gentile; The word Gentile used from Hebrew goy and nokhri and Greek thn. Gentile is derived from the Latin word gentilis, meaning belonging to a clan, a family, a nation, and people, and even those not Roman citizens. In both Hebrew and Greek, there is no word even approaching the way Gentile is used today. In the bible, the same Hebrew word was translated nations, heathen, Gentiles, and people, and the Greek word was translated the same even when it is about the Israelites.

The term Jew did not even appear until the southern kingdom of Judah was taken captive to Babylon. Jew is an abbreviated slang term for Judahite, a resident of the southern kingdom of Judah. I have heard people refer to Abraham as a Jew and the Israelites in Egypt before the exodus as Jews. All who are of the Jewish religion are not jews as is thought today.

We see in Revelation 2:9 and Revelation 3:9 Jesus does not care for those who call themselves Jews when they are not. Jesus came from the tribe of Judah Isaiah 11:1-10 2 Timothy.2:8 Revelation 5:5. Jesus is our high priest not from the tribe of Levi but of the tribe of Judah, Hebrews 7:11-15. From the tribe of Judah, our Lord's new high priesthood signals a change from the Old to the New Covenant, a new order.

Some argue that under Mosaic law, tribal affiliation is through the birth father only. There is one case we can see in Numbers 27:4-8 if Mary had no brothers her father's inheritance would pass to her. Jesus through her will be counted of the tribe of Judah. If we cannot accept Jesus being from the tribe of Judah, we cannot accept Him as our savior who gave His life for us.

There is more but may this help.

    God bless,

    RLW

Bonnie Jesus cd not be Jewish...The lamb of God cd NOT have any spot or stain of ADAM...Thats y he told the Jews you are from beneath but i am FROM ABOVE,..You are of this world but i am not of this world... Acts 20 : 28....Feed the Church of God that he has purched with his OWN BLOOD...During gestation a womans plasenta keeps the fetus's blood and the woman blood separated'...There are nutrients that are passed to the fetus and visa versa..But neva the BLOOD...Jesus was the LIVING Word made flesh and blood...Thats y David said ITS THE LORD DOINGS AND IS PRECIOUS IN OUR EYES...It was not of any man thus it had to be a virgin birth...God didn't want any man to have a part in this...Had Jesus been Jewish he wd have to had been bornagain of an incorrupptible seed just like us humans...But the truth is he was that incorruptible seed that God wants to be planted in humanity...Jesus was simply the LIVING WORD ( GOD ) made flesh and blood...Now Mary was Jewish but she was just a vessel...And he was made of a woman ( MARY ) She carried him 9 mos....But he was not Jewish...How cd he be JEWISH WITHOUT A JEWISH FATHER....He was an absolute Son...Thats y the Father instructs all the Angels to WORSHIP HIM.

Matthew 1:1 give you the actual seed line or genealogy of him. His birth is foretold as fast back as Deuteronomy 18:15-19 scriptures 15 and 18 being the points of interest. Matthew 1:14 let's you know how many generations it was from Abraham to the Anointed One.

    Hi Bonnie,

Jesus was born to Jewish parents and grew up in a Jewish community. The only way we can really know if He was Jewish would be to test His DNA, which we cannot. However, Scripture says that the Messiah would come from the seed of Abraham, and then Isaac, and then Jacob. So the promise of God says that the Messiah would be from the Israelite lineage. It is also prophesied (I don't know the exact place in the Bible) that the Messiah would come from the kingly lineage of David, which was from Judah, from which we get the Jews. If Jesus has any DNA from his mother, Mary, then He would be a Jews, as she was a Jew. the Y chromosome DNA was created by God the Father. It was created because DNA is physical matter. The Father selected the genetic makeup of this Y chromosome, so He most likely created it as genetically Jewish. the Scripture also state that Jesus' lineage was Jewish. So if we believe that all Scripture is true, then Jesus was a Jew because Scripture says so.
