Let's remember that a true Christian marriage far surpasses physical/sexual desire. Your spouse should be beside you in all battles, spiritual and worldly. You can (and should) share that all-transcending comradeship and mental/spiritual unity with your spouse.
But you see, back even in these days, marriages were very superficial, and divorce was a popular notion. There is absolutely nothing in scripture thay forbids/disables us from developing that kind of love with our spouse. And we should.
