Brother Melvin, may CHRIST IN US grace us with HIS wisdom and HIS understanding.
Jesus said: Destroy this temple and in three days I will raise it again. He was speaking of his body.
If we are IN CHRIST then we are in the temple of God.
John declared this:
Revelation 15:8 And the temple (CHRIST) was filled with the smoke of THE GLORY OF GOD, and from his power; and no man was able to enter into the TEMPLE (into Christ), till the seven plagues of the seven angels were fulfilled.
The seven plagues of Revelation was poured out on Christ instead of us, WE deserved that punishment. All of mankinds judgement was ON CHRIST as he cried out to God.
When Jesus died on the cross, it wasn't just symbolism. It wasn't just the physical pain. He literally experienced the punishment for our sins, what it would be like to spend eternity separate from God. And it is Jesus crying out like everybody's going to be if they reject Christ. God, where are you? I'm in this darkness, in this pain. Jesus literally experienced our punishment.
Just to add to the truths that others shared, God is Holy and can't be in the presence of sin, Those was our sins that caused the Father to forsake him.
God takes sin seriously, Even though it was his son he couldn't turn back judgment,
God hates sin.
Isaiah 53:10-11. Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand.
He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities.
Hi Melvin ,please read Psalm 22 ,i belive this Psalm is all about Jesus ,the Jewish leaders should have known this Psalm and i believe Jesus was quoting it for the purpose of directing them to it so they would understand that it is all about him ,Jesus Christ ,the messiah that they were waiting for .
This is just my opinion; may others have a better answer. We know from noon till 3 PM darkness fell over the land. When all of our sins were laid on the back of our glorious Savior Jesus, God had to turn his face and Jesus felt the burden and weight of our sins on His own.
