Remember that the baptism of John the Baptist is a baptism of introduction of the lord Jesus Christ as he is about to fulfill all righteousness as prophet, priest, and king. It was the custom of the Jews to baptize in coming kings and for the father of the king to state this is my son who I am well pleased.
