Discuss Song of Solomon 5

  • Richard H Priday - In Reply - 7 months ago
The watchmen that went about the city found me, they smote me, they wounded me; the keepers of the walls took away my veil from me

    ( Song of Solomon 5:7).

Perhaps for context we can look at these verses ( Matthew 25: 1-13). Specifically verse 5 says "

"While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept."

The main theme of Song of Solomon is about two lovers; the one woman had; in previous verses heard the knocking of the door. "I sleep, but my heart waketh: it is the voice of my beloved that knocketh, saying, Open to me, my sister, my love, my dove, my undefiled: for my head is filled with dew, and my locks with the drops of the night." ( Song of Solomon 5:2).

Here we see some similarities to Revelation 3:20 "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me."

We are to wait for the bridegroom; this story reminds us of the foolish virgin. Verse 6 in this chapter of Song of Solomon seems to also say the same thing; possibly an analogy of missing the Rapture.

There is some conjecture to beating fellow servants which is in Matthew 24:48 to the end which would seemingly represent servants warning of the Rapture who are rejected today. Luke 12:47 says

And that servant, which knew his lord's will, and prepared not himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes.

This could also be a parallel verse to Song of Solomon 5:7.

This particular topic came up with some who espoused the idea that there was a "phased rapture". I tend to agree with the Rapture being a reward for a remnant of those sold out for the Lord now; but a later resurrection of the dead either at the midpoint or the end of the Tribulation. That is what I would call a tertiary issue; eschatology as to Pre Trib or not view secondary. The main thing is not to become lukewarm. As my latest posting shows I don't like to get too much into hidden meanings.

    Agape.

I say amen to this posting except the last sentence because I feel like I should understand what you are saying but I can't seem to grasp it. Would you please expound on it? I read Song of Solomon 5:7. Bless you :)

    The Rapture

According to 1 Corinthians 15:22 at the last trump the Lord comes for His church. Some say that Matthew 24:36 is referring to that day that no man knows the day and hour as being the Jewish feast of Trumpets. There could be something to that; with Christ fulfilling the Spring feasts already; namely the Passover lamb sacrificed for us; and the Pentecost ascension which; by the way was always celebrated on the "8th day" of the week.

As my last post indicates; there is little talk today among most professing believers of the Rapture. We see what could be an analogy of a separation or Rapture of some in Luke 12:45 where the watchmen is beaten by his fellow sorkers. There is even some say that same pattern in Song of Solomon 5:7.

Luke 21:36 instructs us to pray that we are worthy to escape all these things and to stand before the Son of Man. The original language uses the word "agonia" or something to that affect. Clearly; not all believers are praying in such a manner which questions their walk with God as to either their salvation or their position of readiness. I have probably presented some ideas last year as to whether all Christians are raptured or if some have to go through some of the Tribulation. What is certain is that these warnings; along with Revelation 3:10 are for those who are awake and waiting which I contended in my last posting that Malachi 3:16 spoke of.

Whatever our eschatology; fearing God and anticipating His arrival isn't restricted to those who hold a Pretribulational and Premillenial viewpoint. I have fellowshipped with Amillenials and Post Millenials who had more conviction about Christ coming as well as the terrible judgments on the earth than those who claim what I espouse; namely the Rapture followed by the 7 Year Tribulation and a Millennial rule of Christ before the eternal new earth. Even if I could press my viewpoint it isn't worth splitting hairs; we should all look to the scriptures daily.
  • THE CUSTOM OF FEET WASHING and JESUS - In Reply - 2 years ago
The Old Testament references ( Genesis 18:4; 19:2; 24:32; 43:24; Judges 19:21; 1 Samuel 25:41; 2 Samuel 11:8; Song of Solomon 5:3; Psalms 58:10) show that the washing of the feet was the first act on entering the tent or house after a journey. The Orientals wore only sandals, and this washing was refreshing as well as cleanly. In the case of ordinary people, the host furnished the water, and the guests washed their own feet, but in the richer houses, the washing was done by a slave. It was looked upon as the lowliest of all services ( 1 Samuel 25:41). Jesus pointedly contrasts Simon's neglect of even giving Him water for His feet with the woman's washing His feet with tears and wiping them with her hair ( Luke 7:44). On the last evening of His life, Jesus washed the disciples' feet ( John 13:1-16). Their pride, heightened by the anticipations of place in the Messianic kingdom whose crisis they immediately expected, prevented their doing this service for each other. Possibly the same pride had expressed itself on this same evening in a controversy about places at table. Jesus, conscious of His divine dignity and against Peter's protest, performed for them this lowliest service. His act of humility actually cleansed their hearts of selfish ambition, killed their pride, and taught them the lesson of love.

I can't give a Hebrew translation; but Jesus is the person in Song of Solomon. The woman is the Bride of Christ. It's hard to understand if a person thinks of it carnally.

All scripture is pointing to Christ and the beautiful love song written by king Solomon is no exception. It describes the Lord Jesus Christ in the most beautiful and intimate terms - He is manly and strong - He is the chiefest among ten thousand. His lips are like lilies dripping with myrrh - His mouth is sweetness itself. Jesus Christ is desirable in every way - He is altogether lovely

The truth of the good news of the Lord Jesus Christ and the many precious promised that surround the beauty of His Person - can only be described as the sweetest and most beautiful truths known to mankind. The glories of the gospel of grace from which flow love and joy and peace and hope and the salvation - and that brings with it eternal life are sweetness and light to all who believe.

Grace and truth came to us through the Lord Jesus Christ, Who is the transforming light that streams into the inner recesses of man's bitter soul - bringing new life and new hope and new joy into the inner recesses of man's spirit.

You can put the verses into google, type a comma and type Hebrew interpretation. Then you'll have to find a website that is Jewish.

For me, first I had to leave my carnal mind at the door, and open it to the spiritual; by asking My Teacher, the Holy Spirit to reveal Jesus to me. He indwells us and He is the Spirit of Jesus. This is part of His ministry to believers.

For me, the greatest acceptance and love is in the strength of the statement: I AM my beloveds, and My Beloved is MINE.

I am not struggling all alone. I belong to My Savior.

Could you provide me with the Hebrew transliteration of Song of Solomon Ch 5 V 16? I was listening to it the other day and I did not hear the words that are presented here as translation.

Who is chapter 5 talking about in such praise as is apparent in verses 9 - 16?

    Best regards,

    Song of Solomon 5:16

His mouth is most sweet: yea, he is all together lovely. This is my beloved, and this is my friend, O daughters of Jerusalem.

    Joel 2:28

And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions:

    Acts 2:17

And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:

    Psalms 127:2

It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows: for so he giveth his beloved sleep.

    Song of Solomon 5:2

I sleep, but my heart waketh: it is the voice of my beloved that knocketh, saying, Open to me, my sister, my love, my dove, my undefiled: for my head is filled with dew, and my locks with the drops of the night.

You are his beloved and he is yours.

[Nowsometimes there is a duo that tries to wear us down and discourage us (all hours). They bother me too and anybody else who loves Jesus and isn't afraid of the Gospel of Christ.]

Pray this: By the Authority of Jesus Christ and the Blood of Jesus, I exercise dominion and authority over Satan and his demons 'harass and hinder'. In the name of Jesus I now send you outlaw spirits into outer darkness to forever wander.

By the authority of Jesus Name I yield to the rest that belongs to his beloved. Thank you for angels that guard my bedside every time I sleep.

Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men. Luke 2:14

Mishael: you won't have to do this every day.
  • THE WATER OF LIFE - In Reply - 3 years ago
It will always bring glory to the name of Jesus. If you asked a question, you may receive a scripture. You must find the scripture and pray. Ask the Holy Spirit to teach you the meaning.

His voice is soft. It does not stampede you. Always write it down. Praise and worship the name of Jesus. The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Christ.

Your heart will soar with joy unspeakable. Song of Solomon 5:2, 6:3, 7:10. He does speak to our spirit. Our soul does fall deeper in love...with the Lover of our souls.

This is deeper than male or female.

This is spiritual. This is a love in the spirit; between us and our Lord. The more time we spend with Him; the more precious is the love we give and receive.

Everything he speaks is Truth. Heaven will be like this. We can't mob Jesus. He can speak to us individually and personally, at the same time. That's how great He is.

I just want all to know they can stand this close to Jesus now. Take freely, the Water of Life.

  • CIRCUMCISION IS NOW IN THE HEART - In Reply on Song of Solomon 5 - 4 years ago
Comment by Mishael: In the Bible circumcision was the sign of being in covenant with God. In the New Testament Paul had to teach that circumcision was now in the heart. (Stoned many times for that). A new and better Covenant was secured by Jesus on the Cross; ratified by His own blood.

NOTE: Women are to be circumcised in the heart too. Salvation is a decision of the heart. Coming to Christ for Salvation, circumcises your heart and you are in covenant with God. Blameless.

    OLD TESTAMENT

    Genesis 17:10

This is my COVENANT which ye shall keep, between me and you and thy seed after thee; Every man child among you shall be circumcised.

    Genesis 17:11

And ye shall circumcise the flesh of your foreskin; and it shall be a token of the COVENANT betwixt me and you.

    Genesis 17:12

And he that is eight days old shall be circumcised among you, every man child in your generations, he that is born in the house, or bought with money of any stranger, which is not of thy seed.

    Genesis 17:13

He that is born in thy house, and he that is bought with thy money, must needs be circumcised: and my covenant shall be in your flesh for an everlasting covenant.

    Deuteronomy 10:16

Circumcise therefore the foreskin of your HEART and be no more stiffnecked.

    NEW TESTAMENT

    Acts 7:51

Ye stiffnecked and uncircumcised in HEART AND EARS, you do always resist the Holy Ghost: as your fathers did, so do you (now).

There are seven references to "roe" in the Songs & all refer to the animal - nothing to do with the fish. A dictionary defines the roe as also being: "A small Eurasian deer which lacks a visible tail and has a reddish summer coat that turns greyish in winter." There are other Old Testament portions that speak of a wild roe & the roebuck. And Songs 8:14 speak of the "roe or young hart", indicating that an animal is spoken of in this Book & I would suggest in all other appearances of the word in the Scriptures.

So when Solomon says "roe" in Song of Solomon... I'm having a difficult time discerning whether he is referring to fish testicles or a southeastern deer. I have prayed for clarity but have not received much yet. Can you help me? I know the israelites were fishermen and they didnt really go to southeast asia for hunting so. fish testicles makes more sense. thank you.

the bride was too much into comforts of the body, warmth, sleep,dreaming...total comfort.

She hesitated too long weighing the choice.Would she answer the call of her beloved, or to stay in the place of fleshly comfort.

The Holy Spirit being so sensitive, understood her longing and desire to be with Him, did not at all match the intense love He felt for her, so He left alone.

How many times have we chosen sleep and slumber when He called us at an convenient time.

    Acts 3

In Injil-e-muqaddas, we see the words of Jesus in John chap 3: For God so loved the world (ALL peoples of ALL nations He made), that He gave His only begotten Son (His Word = 'Kalimat-ullah' sent to this Earth & clothed in the form of man) see John 1:1-14; that whosoever believeth on Him should not perish, but have everlasting life".(v16). "Jesus came unto His own (the Jews), & His own received Him not (rejected & crucified Him). But as many as received Him (believe & accept His sacrifice by faith), to them gave He power (the right, privilege) to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His Name" ( John 1:11,12). Yes, Jesus came for the Jews, but His love extends to you & me also.

If you do not obey 2 Timothy 2 verse 15 you will have difficulty understanding. Gentles would have been blessed through Israel's promises. Israel promises were interrupted and they were put on hold. Jesus was a minister to the circum ( Romans 15 v 8). Saul of tarsus was saved which was a mystery hid in God. Study Roman 11 and Eph chapters 2 and 3. Read these chapters overandover again. Paul is the apostle to the Gentles (Jew and Gentles are saved by 1 Cor. 15 1-4 now. The Gospel of Paul was different than Peter's Gospel. Peter preached the Gospel of the circum and Paul preached the gospel of the uncircumc. Believe 1Cor 15 v 1-4.Peter never preached 1 Cor 15 1-4

Hello Abubakar, that's a good question. While Jesus had his chosen people of Israel he spent most of his time with, Jesus came to Earth and died on the cross to save all people. Jesus said to teach 'all nations' Matthew 28:19, to 'all the world' Matthew 24:14, and was given first to the Jews then to Greeks (meaning others): Romans 1:16. Jesus couldn't be everywhere at once so he chose a certain place and people to focus his ministry on, but it's for everyone in the world. He has a heart for everyone- remember Jesus's story of the good Samaritan about being a good neighbor to everyone: Luke 10:25-37

Good day to you, my name is abubakar and I'm a muslim from Nigeria
My question is that why is it that whenever Jesus Christ (pbuh) is addressing his people he'll rightly say o people of Israel, does this mean that he was only sent for the Israel or for the whole of humanity like the christian claimly said. Thank you.
