Discuss Judges 10

Hello Kathlynn. I don't understand your belief/understanding of 'Elohim' that you shared, as I don't find that in the Bible, but I can say this: that the word 'Elohim' (from the Hebrew), has several meanings. And those meanings/applications can be to the True God (as in Genesis 1:1), or to gods in general (as in Judges 10:6), even to judges (in Exodus 21:6).

Elohim then, is the general name for God and is used in the context of God as Creator. The Name emphasizes that God is distant and powerful. It is used to describe God as the awesome and majestic Creator.

However, when God's Name is given as 'Yahweh' (the LORD), this is His personal Name and is used in the context of God having a relationship with His people. When God goes about creating humanity ( Genesis 2:7 ff; cf with Genesis 1:27, spoken of in a more general way), it is Yahweh who does this act. When the Lord is personally involved with His people, Yahweh is the proper way to designate Him.

Verse 16-When Jehovah God saw how his people had turned to him for help after putting away their bad ways he felt for them and gave them help.

The character of our God and Savior, The Lord Jesus Christ can be gleaned from the story of Gideon. The Lord uses the weak so that He can rev'd the Glory due to Him. So that we can see and know it is His vast Wisdom, Mercy, and Loving kindness that gives me comfort and peace. Especially in this time of world wide pandemic and lack of spiritual leadership from our leaders in most levels of government, social, and ecclesiastical areas of our lives. June 2021

It's sad to see where Israel overcame in Egypt to where they are now.

I was shocked when I read the part of God telling them go and have the Gods you follow to relieve you of your oppression since you have forsaked me. I was reacting as if watching a movie with the response of "you tell them God!". God is the true real OG.

I gleaned the below narrative from Bible Truth Publishers as there wasn't much about them in the Bible:

"The beginning of this chapter gives us a brief sketch of the history of two judges in Israel-Tola and Jair-both eminent men. The first was renowned for his descent, his ancestors being mentioned in Genesis amongst the sons of Israel who went down into Egypt-namely, Tola and Puah among the sons of Issachar ( Gen. 46:13; 1 Chron. 8:1). The second was conspicuous for his wealth, the number of his sons, his prosperity (c. f. chap. 5:10), and his cities. But, strange to say; nothing else is added.

Their rule continued for nearly the same length of time. God made use of them, qualifying even Tola " to save Israel" by (Rev. Ver.), but He did not glorify Himself by them in any special way. This reminds us of 1 Cor. 1:26-29; "Not many mighty, not many noble, are called. But God bath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; and base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things, which are not, to bring to naught things that are; that no flesh should glory in His presence."

God uses, in preference, weak vessels, and that is the reason why so many of the judges bear, in one way or another, the stamp of weakness. On the other hand, all the value of God's instruments consists in presenting the character of Christ. How difficult it would be for a man who was powerful, noble or rich, to reflect the traits of Him who, when here below, was found in the place of weakness, humiliation and poverty, that He might bring the grace of God to us. The judges who preceded them, being neither Tolas nor Jairs, were examples of humility, of forgetfulness of self, esteeming others better than themselves; and who, having nothing to lose, gave proof of spiritual energy which nothing could arrest and whose very weakness achieved a victory."

Even though GOD is all-knowing,it is hard to put that aside and truly get that we know him only as follow me and do this or that and I'll be with you,GOD loves us all so much and I have asked before, does anyone ask GOD and his son how their day is,probably not,bc were use to praying for forgiveness and asking for blessings, that we don't really get to know another side to them, like a friend,Amen..

"..and his soul was grieved for the misery of Israel" "For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son..." It is amazing to consider God being in misery for his people. I tend to view God as the "all-knowing all-powerful" God that he is, but it is tough for me to wrap my mind around the fact that he feels sadness and misery when his people turn from him. I am so thankful that he is a God of love.
