This prayer has puzzled many Christians. We must remember that Jesus was a member of the Godhead. And his prayers were not like ours. Yes, they were in the form of prayers, but they were a continuation of the communication he had had with the Father before he became a man. And this communication continues now.
But we are who not members of the Godhead, must pray as he told us to pray: "There is no other name. ..." Abraham prayed this way. And so did the prophets. So did Stephen and Paul.
"And as they stoned him, Stephen prayed, 'Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.' And he fell to his knees, shouting, 'Lord (Jesus), don't charge them with sin! ( Acts 7:59).
Paul said this about his prayers to Jesus, "Three different times I begged the Lord (Jesus) to take it away. Each time he said, 'My gracious favor is all you need. ...'" ( 2 Corinthians 12:18)
I love the whole book but the 17th chapter verses 20-26 contain the entire promise and the good (read that as best news)we could ever receive right from the words of our Lord and Savior.
DELE DANIEL's & Idowu Isaiah A's:
In regards to your comments about Jesus and God being "ONE" You are absolutely correct in that Jesus said he and the Father are One.
But neither one of you quoted John 17:20 where Jesus stated: "that they may all be one; even as You, Father, are in Me and I in You, that they also may be in Us, so that the world may believe that You sent Me."
According to Jesus's own words all of his followers are ONE with him and with the Father. Does that mean that we are all GOD as well?
Everybody has been saying the true name of GOD has lost and only the 4 letters YHWH was found. Now this scripture is answering all the questions that has and speculation about His name. Jesus says HE has revealed GOD's name. Obviously, JESUS CHRIST!
I'm so overwhelmed by the heart of my Saviour, thinking about me even though i was far from being born in this earth. oh! what else do i need, i cannot loose heaven tis so precious.
Same sex marriages? Is it the Lords way or mans way? Let us look at Sound Doctrine Leviticus 16:22 Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination. God has put his standard and regulation when it comes to marriage, he simply talks about husband/wife relationship and has been clear when it comes to it. Many say God loves everyone and Many people try to justify that to lie with a man as a woman is really no problem, and they will try to get behind them heaven and earth to be able to legally get married. And yes its so true that God loves everyone; that is the whole reason he sent his Son Jesus Christ into this world John 3:16. But he also expects us first and most importantly to Know him and his Son, so we can get eternal life, not just chance his standard and end-up in hell. John 17:3.
First and foremost, Jesus declared that his disciples believed that He came out of the Father (God), and was sent by HIM. He prayed that they should be one (metaphorically, not literally), as He and the Father are one in purpose and design, therefore there is no three persons (in) one God, but three persons (of) one God.
If God and Jesus both always existed and are co-equal, then it would make no sense for the Bible to confusingly speak of God and Jesus in terms of a relationship between a father and his son. For what would we think of about ANY father and his son? If it weren't for the father, the son would not exist. Jesus is not God; he is exactly as the Bible describes him - the Son OF God. The word "son" principally is regarded in the Bible as "offspring" and in Genesis we read that Adam was produced by God. Interestingly, Adam and Jesus even shared the same description: "son of God", ( Luke 3:38). While the Father is always found in the Bible to be called "God", the phrase "God the Son" is never found. Further, if the Son really was God, then why would he call the Father "the only true God"? ( John 17:1-3). Jesus is God's "only-begotten" son; the only being directly created by God, ( John 1:18). Revelation 3:14 says that Jesus is "the Beginning of the creation of God", NASB. Colossians 1:15 says that Jesus is "the FIRSTBORN of all creation". Micah 5:2 says that Jesus' ORIGIN is from of old, from ancient days RSV (cf. JB, NEB, REB, NAB, NIV, AT, Mo, NRSV, NJB, Byington, and Young's). Origin: "a coming into existence" - Webster's New World Dictionary, 1973. Therefore, because of the Bible's explanations of this, the designations "Father" and "Son" when attributed to God and Jesus make sense.
Since John 17:3, Philippians 3:8-10, Matthew 7:21-23, verse 9 covered by a thick cloud, Jeremiah 29:13 that the people might hear when I speak with you, and believe you forever. John 6:17-8; 8:12. Jesus marveled in Matthew 8:10. Is there a greater marvel elsewhere? Is the only disease (BELEVING A LIE) caused by either Deception, or Pride. 1 Corinthians 4:7 there is only One God Who cannot lie, Hebrews 13:8. Who says there are no absolutes? The statement is an absolute, humble unselfish FATHER already knows everything, and is the answer, yet humanity is so wrapped up in their shallow little plans they miss the mark. His Glory Revelation 4:11, Galatians 2:20-21, Genesis 15:1, Philippians 3:12 Came here to understand this veiled verse 19:13 but got sidetracked. Sound unfamiliar 2 Corinthians 3:18, Ephesians 4:13.
Greetings from God our Father and from our Lord Jesus the Christ of God. There are several things that our Lord Jesus wanted us to believe:
1. to believe that God did send him,
2. that He wanted us to be one with each other like He is One with God. Wait a minute, how can I invade my brothers body to be one, could it be that Jesus meant to be in (one accord) meaning no disagreements, to flow as if we are on? I believe that is exactly what He means. He came to do the perfect will of The Father and not His will. He always glorified God and not Himself, He wants all glory for His and our Father in this way He is glorified. Every word that Jesus said was the message that God wanted Him to deliver onto us. His plea was for us to believe that "He did send Me". It was the intent of God to put His Christ through the torment and punishment of the Cross for the sins of all man. Just think of the Love that our Father has for us that He would give His only Son to suffer and die for us. Father Abraham displayed a love that God loved in that Abraham proved obedience and love that God had not seen in other humans. That is what Jesus tells us that we should love God with everything about us above everything else, that is pleasing to Him. There is so much to write about but I will ask you, in that day when Jesus returns many will say "Lord we casted out devils and cured the sick in your name" and He answers and says to them" Get away from me, I never knew you! How is that possible if they did things in His name? Seek for the answer from a truly good friend, mine is Jesus the Anointed One of God. Have a beautiful life in Him.
Perhaps there is one sin from which has two causes and Three basic pathways:
1. Unbelief (hath God said?) Beleiving A Lie John 16:9;
2. Deception, i.e. NutraSweet(deficiency) Proverbs 12:20;
3. Pride Isaiah 14:13 Proverbs10:13 (Self-centered) cancer, Toxicity;

5. Seven major pathways: Nutrition, Toxicity, ....
The revelation came to me this morning, that Jesus, as the second Adam, the quickening Spirit, desired to be made one in his body with the Father as he was in the Spirit before he took on flesh ( John 1:1-4, 12-16; Hebrews 10:5,7), so that we Gentiles (as believers) could enter into the Kingdom of God in his Glorified Body according to Acts 2:38, and be glorified in the Rapture ( Philippians 3:21). This is "Wonderful News." I am in the Glorified Body of Christ, Expectedly waiting for my glorified body in the rapture. Thank God for including me, a Gentile, in the blessings of Abraham's SEED; Jesus, the Christ!
God's wisdom has Fatherly instructions, corrections, admonitions, information and guidance in them. As a matter of divine fact, His Wisdom originates from a heart of love, mercy, and compassion that are beyond human comprehension. Therefore, they are meant to stir you and I, as it were, into the favours and strength of God. And because God is God, and there is none compared to Him, it means that He can't lie. Hence, it is worthwhile and wise to give concentrated attention to His Word. God's Word is His Wisdom and His wisdom are His dictates, and they are meant for the good of whoever believes ( 2 Corinthians 12:9; Hebrews 4:16). Truthfully speaking, the fact that God does not do evil, but that He only does what is good and right, should encourage whoever cares to listen, to plunge into His truths, and also into His wisdom- and that must be through Jesus Christ, and also through the Holy Spirit, the Eternal Spirit ( 1 Corinthians 5:10; 2 Corinthians 3:5). The nuggets of truths, in this Proverbs 4, like others, are godlike precepts and instructions that are incomparable, good and right for the human soul, and for the spirit man, the hidden man of the heart, - and that mainly refers to the recreated human spirit. They are facets of biblical truths that are encouraging and also excellent for the godly type of life that many are craving and thirsting for ( Psalms 1:1-3, Psalms 37:4; Ephesians 1:17). Interestingly, depending perhaps on what background, a Christian comes from, the fact is that for the really genuine and committed type of Christian, a time will or must come that he will come into the knowledge that this God of Israel, the Father of our LORD Jesus Christ deserves to be magnified, glorified and worshipped; for there is none like Him ( John 4:23; 1 Peter 1:25). Thus, the place of wisdom, in the lives of whoever desires and dares to love and honour the Living God ( John 1:12; 3:16). He is, all that matters- and when you and I key into His love and faithfulness, He will do great wonders through us to the glory of His name. In view of these and many other things vis a vis the Word of God, wisdom dictates that we give ourselves committedly unto the LORD, and to His Word ( Matthew 6:33,34). There are challenges upon challenges that confront us, as individuals, and that is why, these truths and instructions, as contained in Proverbs, and throughout the pages of the Holy Writ, demand that we be faithfully committed to them. Remember, we have been accepted, into the family of the Beloved, and that refers to Jesus Christ ( John 17:3; Romans 8: 15; Ephesians 2:18; Galatians 4:16,1; Hebrews 9:14; 1 John 4:3; 5:13). And that is where the grace of God comes on board; His grace is more than sufficient ( 1 Corinthians 15:10; 2 Corinthians 3:5; 2 Corinthians 12:9). God has abilities no matter what task or assignment He has called you and I for. When you commit yourself to God's dictates and function in line with them, Angels will go on assignment for you ( John 15:7; James 4:16.). There are levels and degrees of encounters with God, that we can't get into except through daily obedience and practical submission to the Word of God. In fact there is nothing, as far as I know that can surpass what God has given. He has given Jesus Christ, who is referred to biblically, as the Wisdom of God, - and that is for the salvation and redemption of humanity. And when you belong to Him through the agency of the new birth, you automatically become joint heirs with Him. And with that you are sorted if you know how to walk or function in love, and then take advantage of what He has given through Christ Jesus, the Saviour of the World. The essence of these is that we should give attention to wisdom, embrace it, reflect upon it, and practice it. God's instructions and precepts demands heartfelt obedience ( Psalm 119:6; John 14:15; John 15:120; 1 Corinthians 7:19; 1 Peter 1:25; 1 John 5:3). It says whatever you do in word and deed, do it heartily as unto the LORD. Hence, in the things of the Spirit, and that refers to the Holy Spirit, high level of commitment should be the norm, and that is because God cannot lie, - and His Word is forever infallible ( John 1:1-14; Hebrews 4). Truly, God is forever trustworthy.
The greatest thing that every believer should aspire to see is Christs fullness even His glory! Thank God that Christ Himself prayed for us to the Father that we may behold it. May His glory be our experience everyday of our walk with our master and savior Jesus Christ.
I think that it is exactly what it is said: one of you is a devil, Jesus said that Judas was a devil. Being a disciple he was not enough for being clean according to John 17:17.
"It is finished." Jesus said, "...I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do." ( John 17:4) The mathematic definition of work states work is done when a force acts upon an object to cause a displacement of the object. For a force to qualify as having done the work, there must be a displacement and the force must have caused the displacement. According to this definition, I can dig all day trying to get a stump out of the ground; but, if I do not displace the stump (get it out of the ground) work was not done. Satan did a work on man, and man did a work when man sinned. Man was displaced from righteousness. Jesus did a work of righteousness. He displaced man from sin, death, and hell. His work on the cross moved man from death to life; from darkness to light; from sin to righteousness. Each man has to do a work of repentance to receive the work of Christ. Without repentance, man may spend his lifetime fleeing the curse of death, yet, finding no escape of death - for he actually did no work of repentance.
We are not saying women are not doing a good job or not gifted but there is the commandment of God to be followed. Paul clearly says in 1Corinthians 14:37 if any man thinks himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things I write unto you are the commandments of the Lord. Now he was speaking the word to people with various gifts of the Holy spirit. Jesus says in Mathew 7:21-22: not everyone that says unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter the kingdom of heaven: but he that doeth the will of my Father in heaven. Many will say unto me in that day, Lord, Lord have we not prophesied in thy name? And in thy name cast out devils? And in thy name many wonderful works? And I will profess unto them, I never knew you depart from, ye that work iniquity. Yes they can do mighty works in His name but if is not at his command it is all in vain. His will is His command. In 2John 1:9 it says: Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath no God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the father and the son. The doctrine of Christ did not place women preachers in the church. Where did these women preachers originate from? In Mathew 16:6b- take heed and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees. In Mathew 16:12 the disciples understood he was not speaking of leaven of bread but leaven of doctrine of Pharisees? What was wrong with the doctrine of Pharisees? Here it is: Mathew 15:9 - But in vain do they worship me teaching for doctrine the commandments of men. In Mathew 15:3 they transgressed the commandment of God by their traditions, of their elders. The Apostles doctrine ( Acts 2:42) was the doctrine of Christ. Jesus says in John 17:16-17 - my doctrine is not mine but his that sent me. If any man do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God or whether I speak of myself. The doctrine of Christ did not place women preachers, but doctrines of pharisees and saducees. In Mathew 23:29- 37 He called them serpents, brood of vipers. Adressing the serpents Jesus said you killed the righteous, shed their blood, from the blood of righteous able. These scripture clearly say Cain was a serpent. The original serpent gave Eve leaven of false doctrine and slew her by it, she became a transgressor. John the Baptist calls these serpents brood of vipers. In Mathew 23:15 they are called children of hell. The serpent convinced Eve to transgress the clear cut command of God by giving it a false interpretation. He deceives the fallen church the same way today. We are here looking at the scripture comparing spiritual things with spiritual, scripture with scripture and by the Holy Ghost, for scripture interprets scripture and was given by the inspiration of the Holy Ghost for correction and reproof. Jesus warns us in Mathew 7:13- enter ye in the straight gate: for wide is the gate and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life. The doctrine of the Apostolic Fathers that begat us by the gospel is of the Holy Ghost and cannot be added to or subtracted from. In I Corinthianthians 4:15 Paul says, though ye have ten thound instructors in Christ, ye have not many fathers: for in Christ I have begotten you throught the gospel. In 1timothy 2, it speaks of women to adorn themselves in modest apparel. It is unbecoming for Christian women to dress like the world, to walk naked and to put garments that pertain to men. Deutronomy 22:5 says the woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a womans garment: for ALL THAT DO SO ARE AN ABOMINATION UNTO THE LORD THY GOD. That settles it.
I am really respect to Jesus and how he pray to tell his Father to save the people by giving them the eternal life.
What is the eternal life?
The eternal life is to know him, the only true GOD and to know JESUS CHRIST the one who sent.
Jesus also praying for everyone else who will have faith because of what his disciples will say about him.
Too deep to be understood and too large to be kept, but too fool to be forgotten...
Thanks LORD Jesus, you teach me the sincere prayer and give me the conviction... Amen
Jesus is performing his high priestly role, and is praying to the father because they are one. He is about to go to the cross, and fulfill the manifest destiny for coming into the world as the Lamb of God that takes away the sin of the world. He is truth, and the word is truth so he prays that his disciples will be kept from the evil one, and that none would be lost. The whole law of God is to love the LORD with all our heart, mind, soul, and strenght. The second command is to love thy neighbor as thyself. Jesus said a new command I give unto you is to love one another as I have loved you. Thank God that the father only knows when the hour of the second coming will be, yet he told us we could know when it would be near even at the door. As Jesus said tarry ye until ye shall receive power from the Holy Spirit. We must be witnesses until he comes again, and warn others that God is not willing that any should perish, but that all will come to repentance. We should count the patience of God as salvation. Just as God warned Noah to buld an ark for the saving of his house, we are to tell other to receive Jesus Christ to save their soul from the coming judgement upon the whole world. It took Noah 120 years to build the ark, and after everyone was in it God waited seven days. Then God shut the door. So shall it be when the son of man returns again.
John 4:23, 24) Nevertheless, the hour is coming, and it is now, when the true worshipers will worship the Father with spirit and truth, for, indeed, the Father is looking for suchlike ones to worship him. 24God is a Spirit, and those worshiping him must worship with spirit and truth.
