The foot washing was a HEART washing, Satan enters our hearts not our feet, Jesus had always said what comes from a MAN HEART is what DEFILES him, He neva said our personal hygiene defiles us. He says to eat with unwashed hands defileth NOT a man. Jesus said he that eateth bread with me has lifted up his HEEL against me,But Judas neva assaulted Jesus with his heel.ITS OUR HEARTS THAT NEED WASHING

Verse 35: The identifying mark of true Christians would be that they have self-sacrificing love like Jesus had for his disciples.

Judas Iscariote was called and chosen from among the many of Jesus' followers, to be "One of the Twelve." The Lord gave him every opportunity to become what God had planned for him, and to be one of the Pillars of the New Testament; but Judas would not! When Moses sent the twelve men to spy out the land, and bring word to the Congregation; all could have been like Joshua and Caleb, but ten failed!

Paye Youpele (cont.); The term, "That the Scripture might be fulfilled," doesn't mean that God plans ahead to make anyone sin! Then everyone could blame Him for making them something that He just wanted to destroy anyway! THAT IS A THOUGHT FROM THE DEVIL! What the Holy Spirit moved the holy Prophets and Apostles to write their observations and judgments, became Law of God; which must be fulfilled.

Paye Youpele; Judas was NOT chosen so he could betray the Lord! Israel was not brought out of the bondage and cruel oppression of Egypt so they could defy God and resist His Spirit and that He may be able to leave them for forty years in the wilderness to die! God saves us with the fullest of good intentions! It is man's fault for his own selfishness if he DECIDES to betray the Lord and fall away!
  • Paye Youpele on John 13 - 7 years ago
John 3: 18 I know whom I have chosen but that the scripture may be fulfilled. Judas was only chosen to betray the lord to facilitate the mission of the lord. May the good lord choose us for something positive.

John 13:34-35 A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another. The Old Testament was about fight the enemy, but Jesus command the Disciples to Love one another. Jesus is our sample to follow his Word. Love Love Love

John13:7 7 Jesus answered and said unto him, What I do thou knowest not now but thou shalt know hereafter. Romans 8:26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. The Holy Spirit will open our eyes to the Word of God.

Mission nearly accomplished. Jesus is winding down His Ministry. All set for the sacrifice of His Body and Blood for our sins. Oh what love!

Can you imagine some Church leader throwing out John the Apostle, or any of those who supported Paul? ( 3 John 9-11) But everyone that is really and truly of God, will receive whosoever God sends to them. If they know us not, it is because they know not the Lord, whose we are. For us also, we must remember to be gentle and kind to every bruised reed and smoking flax; considering our own frailty.

Perhaps a person stopped going to a particular church because he learned that the church follows/teaches false doctrine. It does not necessarily mean he has broken fellowship (cut off, fallen away) with the Lord.
It would be worse for him/her to continue worshiping with them. His sheep hears His voice, and they follow him, they do not hear the voice of strangers!

I agree with this post.my family has been to many churches within my community, and have come across imposters and those whom are not truly following the Lord's word. And I still come across those whom say they are loving and accepting but than they turn their backs and start being judgemental. I do not expect someone to be part of any fellowship to prove they are God loving and truly faithful

Walter, If a brother or sister doesn't want to go to a church; what does it concern you? Many in the Scriptures had to walk alone; not as a sign of God's disfavor, but of His Election. Not going to a Church doesn't mean they don't want fellowship; but more likely because they can't find it among the Church cliques of hypocrites and impostors. A true brother or sister will always recognize family!

Hello Walter; There are a number of references to certain ones who were once disciples, but then afterwards fell away and went back to the world and their sins, for one reason or the other. The simplest explanation is how the Lord warned, "If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them into bundles and they are burned:" and, "Watch! and pray always!"

Vs. 4-8; does anyone have any comments on foot washing ..... ? Pro - con; doesn't matter. I have no designs to reply.
  • Irene123 on John 13 - 7 years ago
Walter - In your question, "Can anyone describe a backslidden Christian?" You went ahead and answered your own question - someone who has known salvation, and then quit fellowshipping with the saints he was with in THE church he was spiritually born into.

Walt:No one is Saved Without The Father's Call:Tug on The Heart John6:44,Then ask forgiveness. Many believe they're Saved: just saying a Prayer, dipped in water, call on His Name--etc. Proverbs 1:24. When The Spirit moves in:Your Life is 100% So Much Different,Changed dramatically! You "Will"tell others!--But if one sins 1Hr.-Yrs: 1John 1:9, Galatians 6:1

Walter,it is described all through the NT.Romans11:20-23, 2John9, Rev.22:14-15 "those that love and practice a lie will not enter His Kingdom. Also Rev21:8..I expect many will say "once saved, always saved" I do not believe it. The whole of the Bible is worthy for instruction in righteousness; Proverbs 10:17, Psalm 119:118. Paul gives the Corinthians instruction in this. God says much about it.
  • Walter on John 13 - 7 years ago
Can anyone define a backslidden Christian? It is used in the OT referring to the nation of Israel but not in the NT referring to those who are born again. Any examples in the bible where someone saved didn't want to go to church, fellowship w/the saints, read their bible, witness for Christ...etc? It's a serious question, thx!
  • Irene123 on John 13 - 7 years ago
Yes, let Jesus' love rule; "At the cross, at the cross, where I first saw the light, and the burden of my heart rolled away; it was there by faith I received my sight, and now I am happy all the day."

    V. 38 - 42 yrs. ago I first came to the Lord in repentance at a church altar and I heard of a woman who had been in the ch. forb7 yrs., a Sun. sch. teacher and - she backslide - for 14 yrs. I was just new in the ch. and ignorant and full of myself and said, "If I was ever in the ch. that long I sure wouldn't backslide!" Well, 5 yrs. later the Lord showed me different; I backslide for 34 yrs.

John 17 is a wonderful outline of the true Church of Jesus the Christ. Jesus prays to the father that his people are to be one as he and the father are one. On the day of Pentecost the were ONE accord. The fulfillment of the law of Christ is always oneness I. Relationship one with another; John 13:34-35.
