The bits in horses mouth cause pressure to sensitive mouth of the horse The pressure cause the horse to obey and can direct guide the body even to turn around if that s what the rider wants the horse to do However man does not have a small bit in his mouth controlled by God or anyone else but God created man a speaking spirit with his own will to make his choices in speech speaking with the tongue The words can speak life and or death to situations from the same small tongue and can come from the same all speaking spirits Summary The small bit s in the horses mouth is are directed by the rider and controls the horses bodily action while the small tongue in the mouth of man is directed by his own will and is sometimes uncontrollable The horses bit is a controller while the small tongue of man is uncontrollable

James 3 1 urages the teachers preachers of the word to be serious with what they are talking about seen that they are feeding the right food to the church of God see Acts 20 28 Church was purchased with His own blood God We must serve with trembling heart

  • BSP on James 3:8 - 11 years ago
This verse is so true. There is no one who has been able to have perfect control of his or her tongue. We all say things that we later regret or say without even thinking. This is another sad consequence of the sin tht we inherited from our ancestors Adam and Eve.
  • Ciscokid on James 3 - 11 years ago
5Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth!

The tongue can no man tame. This is why God choose tongues as evidence of receiving the Holy Ghost in Acts. To prove that ONLY God can tame the tongue.
  • Rae on James 3:16 - 11 years ago
I am surprised that so few ministers ever speak about the evilness of envy, emulation and rivalry in churches. It is one of the worst sins yet the least talked about. It pervades in christian circles, hence the need to address. It is very destructive and insidious.
  • Suzanne on James 3:8 - 11 years ago
There is so much truth in those words. More damage is done by thoughtless speech that can never be altered. How easy to fall into gossip or use a disparaging remark that causes pain to others. Would it not be better to try to find something good to say to really try to love one another. To really try to tame the tongue.

I like how versus 18 tops off this chapter with a cherry: "And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace".

Where are mind is set on; determines, what he will allow us to go through, or what he will bless us with; to help us be like him, and react like him in every situation we face in are lives.

It's like God is saying to us " If you want me, than you will study the lamp that i have given to your feet, and then on your own power, try to follow it, without giving up". "And then will I pour on you, my Spirit, and be ONE with you.

It's like, in are prayer's we ask God to drive for us, in are metiphoric prayers to God, but as James 2:26 says; are faith without works is dead.

James 3:Teaches the virtue or attitude a good Christian should possess in words and in actions i.e.must be rich in words that edifies/pleasing and actions that matches his/her words by avoiding strife, envy, negative or offensive conversation, etc.
  • Bright on James 3 - 11 years ago
The book of James 3 explicitly illustrates with comparison, humans (Christians) and fountain of water. We shouldn't produce evil and good, but good only because good is God as God is good. Bless you.
  • Althea on James 3 - 12 years ago
In life, we must know how to keep our tongue and make God guide it, know how to love more than criticize, and learn by God`s grace to love each other as Jesus loves us first.
  • Francine Walker on James 3 - 12 years ago
Lets face it.. In James chapter 3, the word of God says that the tongue is full of deadly poison and that it's unruly.. it is like a sneak with venom; it kills.. It burns. This tells us that the ordinary man cannot tame it. It burns. Therefore give it to God and let Him filled it with his perfect anointing. And He Christ Will tame it. God truly blesses those that can turn it to God.
  • Gwen on James 3:16 - 12 years ago
I believe the whole Bible because it's the truth. Where there is envying and strife there is a whole lot of confusion.
  • Robert on James 3 - 12 years ago
Truly stated, How often are all wars of hate started? By one mans thoughts given to him by some one other power than God's, Then poison is past along by evil of the heart, lies cost lives and we know who is the father of lies. On the other hand we can chose to beleive God and live in peace, but we have chosen wrong and have trusted in the lies of the very words we chose to speak. Be carful with what we say and to whom that gives glory.

The Book of James (particularly Chapter 3) is so wonderful. The tongue is so small but very powerful. Proverbs says the tongue has life and death in it. If you match this with the teachings in James, one will know that it is a terrible thing not to be able to tame his/her tongue because there is power in the word we speak. I pray God will grant us the grace to be able to tame our tongues. Halleluyah.
  • Timothy Wayne George on James 3 - 12 years ago
Thank God that with the tongue we can bless God, as well as our fellow man. Death and life are in the power of the tongue. So we need to ask God for wisdom to say the right words to bring comfort, and healing to the hearers. My former boss always said it is better to walk the gospel, then to talk it. Truely teachers will be under the greater judgement, because our words have to match our actions. I always pray to the Lord to put a guard over my mouth. Only the Holy Spirit can tame the tongue, and we must be filled with the Spirit so that we will speak the things that are pleasing to God. As the scripture tells us to study to be quiet, and do you own business. If we would obey those words there would be less tongue lashing in the church. May the Lord bless us to walk in love, and speak the truth in love.
  • Pernella Pollard on James 3 - 12 years ago
This is how i deal with my tongue. I ever so often ask the Lord to gird my tongue because in the book of Matthew said that word are life or death, so i asked the Lord to let me speak ONLY the things that he would have me to speak.I am a Register Nurse, and my prays are answer. I even practice this at home. With my unsafe daughter and Husband,GOD IS GOOD, I love Him so much. Just keep on praying. I find that christians have a difficult time with their tongue. Another advise if some on call u to gossip about bad things just tell them to LETS PRAY ABOUT THE PROBLEM love to all readers.

  • MDELL on James 3 - 12 years ago
The Book of James is a great book because it teaches me about myself and how I am to conduct my thoughts, words, and actions. Because the God I serve is so righteous, He expects me to be the same way. Although sin waits at the door,if I study God's Word on a daily basis and let the Holy Spirit renew my mind on a daily basis as well, I am able to control my thoughts, my words and my actions.

Our words shape our lives everyday...let it be edifying, loving and encouraging to those who hear!
  • Eugene on James 3 - 12 years ago
I think it is very clear on how a person that lets their tongue be lose, is not wise. It makes me think about things I say and how I could change for the better. It is so easy not to think before speaking which me convict myself although I have not mastered having a heavy tongue and not to judge.
  • Sherry on James 3 - 12 years ago
I think if people would truly learn to love themselves, and pratice what the bible say about loving others as you do yourself, there would be less back bitten and tonge slashing. You will harvest what you sow.
  • Ljgood on James 3:2 - 13 years ago
Many teachers stumble in what they say, they would be better off not speaking than speaking and teaching errant words. 1:19 Let every man be slow to speak and swift to hear Discern false teachers by what they say: Wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy.

On the other hand: bitter envy and self seeking is earthly, sensual, demonic. For where envy and self-seeking exist, confusion and every evil thing are there.

Is there confusion in your home, church, job, or any activity that you are involved in? What is your contribution to that confusion? Are we part of the problem or part of the solution?

Wisdom brought forth here in chapter 10, is like a " Comparitive Conjuctive ". ( this works but this don't work ) (this edifies but this destroys )! Sounds simple enough, but what is it about this journey of life that seems to cloud over and fog up the obvious? Like -- beating your head against a wall will hurt but resting on a good pillar will refresh-- But the sound of heads crashing are now heard all over the world! The unregenerate is drawn to " Head Banging " just as the " Born Again " is drawn to the rest of God. One wisdom is earthy, senual, devilish, but the wisdom from above is first pure, peaceable, and gentle James 3:15 tru 18.
  • Doris Early on James 3 - 14 years ago
I am sure that you do realize the Holy Spirit of God the Father moved on MEN (humans) as they penned the words in the scripture. In 2 Peter, the word inspired is used (meaning God breathed) same as when God formed man and breathed the the breath of life into the form of clay and it became a living being. The Word of God is a living book.
  • Kyle McCoy on James 3 - 14 years ago
James 3 has a good point. These people should not be cursing out of thy same mouth as they praise the lord!!! At my church we have a cuss bucket and people pay every week because they curse... I can see the line has died down!!!
