@Glen,
Sorry, the Bible doesnt say that Cains wife was from Nod. It rather says that Cain dwelt in the land of Nod ( Genesis 4:16), which doesnt necessarily means that Cains wife came from Nod.
Now coming to Cains wife, Genesis 4 is the only section of the Bible that tells the story of Cain (and Abel), though they are also mentioned in few other sections of the Bible. And one section is not enough to tell ones whole life.
Yet the Bible says that Adam and Eve had two sons; Cain and Abel. Cain was land tiller and Abel sheep keeper. They both offered sacrifices of their fruits and God pleased only with Abels and was displeased with Cains; which caused Cain to get wroth with Abel, and ultimately slew him. Genesis 4:
11 And now art thou cursed from the earth, which hath opened her mouth to receive thy brothers blood from thy hand;
12 When thou tillest the ground, it shall not henceforth yield unto thee her strength; a fugitive and a vagabond shalt thou be in the earth.
A fugitive and vagabond shalt thou be, which means he would have no fixed settlement, he would move from place to place, he could be seen at a certain time and disappear again.
Verse 14 says Behold, thou hast driven me out this day from the face of the earth; Now, was Cain really driven from the face of the earth? The earth is figurative of mans community. Cain lost harmony with the community.
Verse 16 says And Cain went out from the presence of the LORD, and dwelt in the land of Nod, on the east of Eden. But could Cain really depart from the presence of the LORD ? No. this simply means Cain lost fellowship with GOD; otherwise he was still in face of the LORD.
Verse 17: And Cain knew his wife; and she conceived,.. Now what may be the space of time between verses 16 and 17? It certainly took many years during which Adam and Eve were having other sons and daughters and Cain was coming and going as vagabond. It is in the course of this time that he got one of his siters for wife. Genesis 5:4 And the days of Adam after he had begotten Seth were eight hundred years: and he begat sons and daughters:

God bless you.
I think most people are missing the whole point, here. Most people can't follow the language anymore, so they read it as if it is talking about the lineage of human physiology; however, it's not. But what it is speaking about is what forms human community life. It says his name was called Adam. Man means mind and woman means womb of mind. It takes the two together to be complete. Logical thought comes out of human sensitivity. It is locked up in a language that most of the ignorant (unknowing) can't recognize anymore. It is the language of creation.
I am wondering if Seth is the beginning of the ancestry of the present day Israeli Jews. Seth is mentioned as being Adams own likeness and image, therefore hinting that he is more in the image of God than say Cain or Abel. Is this a split in linage or will I be convinced otherwise as I read on? Help me.

When Adam and his wife were given skins directly from the LORD God, this was in a figure of the shed blood of Jesus Christ, slain from the foundation of the world, as were the sacrifices under the Law of Moses. What this means is that Adam was redeemed to be as one of us ( Genesis 3:22). Adam was cleansed and made as a son of God by those skins! So a son in his image would also be as a son of God. And Luke 3:23-38 identifies Adam as a son of God. What's the problem?
It's interesting to note that it was apparently fit for Eve's declaration about Seth's birth to be included in Genesis. "For, [said she], God hath appointed me another seed instead of Abel; for Cain slew him. ...". It's apparent that Eve's declaration at the least, emphasizes that Seth represented a man child to fill the painful void left by the murdered Abel. Further, Seth was likely the next man child born. To deduce further from this passage might be a stretch if not for Genesis 5:3 which states, "And Adam lived an hundred and thirty years, and begat [a son] in his own likeness, after his image; and called his name Seth:". Genesis 5:3 seemingly superfluously states that Seth was after Adam's own likeness and image. But the Bible states things for reasons! We might extrapolate, given that woman can be interpreted as "man's womb"-and that man[Adam-a man] and woman[Eve named only after their fall] were one[Adam naming Eve after the fall would indicate her autonomy/independence from Adam-highly significant], that Adam was emphasizing that he[Adam] had sired Seth, as opposed to another. This possibility/probability cannot be summarily dismissed out of hand. Ivan Panin's discovery (Google him) clearly proves the divine authority and infallibility of the Bible. For anyone to now say otherwise is patently unrealistic.
Wow, people sure lived a long time in those days. What do you get someone for their 600th birthday? If someone asked one of these guys how old they were and they answered 637, would you say "you don't look it"?
@Jaida's comment posted 7/28/2012: You're looking at it backwards. Everything you mentioned was set about well after the fact. It only works the way you laid it out because those connections were made by people well after the stories.
The historical line is not detailed but this is a test of faith, any element of doubt is dangerous to our belief,. The most important is appreciating the little historical facts and integrating it to the earlier chapters and those after it with a strong faith at where we are today and looking forward to meet our Lord as His good children, may the Lord uphold us in Jesus name, Amen
There is no reason to fear for the Bible does have literal meaning only-The question is not "what does it say but do you believe what it says" Please see Youtube Dr Kent Hovind : Mysteries of the Garden of Eden-very enlightening!!!
This is for all of those who want to know where Caine got his wife. In those days, they spread out, and Adam & Eve lived a lot longer than we do today, I have been taught that because of this , that Caine married one of his sisters, their race was a pure race, so they had to marry into their families, later on God only allowed the Hebrew, after Moses to only marry their first cousins within their own tribes,{Reuben, Judah, Simeon, etc.I hope that this has been some help to you guys.
Enoch walked with GOD all the days of his life. And for this reason he did not die, but rather GOD took him. For us to be also taken by GOD on the DAY OF RAPTURE we must walk with HIM in all circumstances we may find ourselves.
Adam means Man
Seth means Appointed
Enosh means Morta
Cainan/Kenan means Sorrow
Mahalalel means The Blessed God
Jared means Shall Come Down
Enoch means Teaching
Methuselah means His death shall bring
Lamech (where we get lamenting) means the Despairng
Noah (see gen 5:29) means Rest (or Comfort)
Man (has) appointed mortal(s) sorrow; (but) the blessed god shall come down teaching| (and) his death shall bring the despairing comfort.
If you disect each and every passege you can really see a divine bieng weaving codes in the passeges.
ADAM AND EVE WERE THE FIRST HUMANS ON EARTH, FEMALES ARE NOT ALWAYS RECORDED IN THE GENEOLOGIE S EXAMPLE IT IS STATED THAT JACOB HAS ELEVEN SONS BECAUSE THE SONS WERE SIGNIFICANT BUT HE ALSO HAS AT LEAST ONE DAUGHTES HENCE CAIN'S WIFE WAS HIS SISTER. WHAT IS NOT STATED CLEARLY IN THE BIBLE MEANS IT IS NOT SIGNIFICANT TO OUR SALVATION SO IT MAKES NO SENSE TO BE CONFUSING OURSELVES ABOUT WHERE CAIN'S WIFE CAME FROM JUST TRUST THE WORD OF GOD AND LET US LIVE HOLY LIVES PLEASING TO THE LORD. AMEN.
i am confused as to where Cain had his wife, because the Bible told us that God first created Adam and Eve only, they had two sons,Cain and Able, and these are the four human being who leaved by than, so how come Cain got married, from whose daughter?.
How did Cain find another wife but Eve had sons? which they were not the first people on earth because we are told that Cain found himself a wife in the land of Nod....i need help
In the questions. I didn't realize that enoch and elijah went to heaven and then died. I thought that tey were caught up to heaven and never came back to earth.
chapter 4 verse 1 says and adam knew eve his wife; and she conceived , and bare cain so adam did father cain cathy understand what your reading because when eve said she was beguiled she meant enticed, tricked, fooled, manipulated , etc etc something like that and cain sinned because he was born a sinner like the rest of us because of eve's sin that brought sin to everyone except Jesus. No matter how great or small your sin we all sin
I THINK IT IS SOME WHAT CONFUSION. HOW DID CAIN HAVE A WIFE WHERE DID THE OTHER WOMEN COME FROM? HIS MOTHER EVE WAS THE ONLY WOMEN, HOW WAS MORE PEOPLE PUT ON EARTH ?
@Myth Buster - Save it for another site. Also, do you really believe events occurred exactly as they happened in secular historical accounts? Weird you can put so much faith in a scientific book, that requires a good measure of deductive reasoning on topics with little evidence, and have so little faith in the Bible. You've busted nothing.
@ Trent. Sorry, but the bible was written by people. In fact, it wasn't even a complete book for almost 1400 years because of its litany of contributors!
Some people believe, albeit without any evidence, that it was 'the word of god' but that is an entirely different concept to it being physically written by god.
And Mica, why do you think at this point of history with all the scientific knowledge we have accumulated that we should 'believe what is written'?
Even though we now have plenty of evidence to explain how humans evolved we should still follow a hoard of stories which contradict each other, written by different authors in completely different periods of history to explain how we got here?
If you want to believe there is a god, fine, but please read up on some secular history, philosophy and biology to save yourself from dangerous levels of ignorance.
If the Bible was made up by a person, it would be dangerous to use names and genealogies that could be checked. But the Bible is full of names, genealogies, and proof of family lines that could be verified.
1) I'm pretty sure that if cain were satans son the Bible would have said that. No where in the Bible does it say this. It does say that adam knew eve and eve bore cain. That means cain is adams son.
2) I think some people are reading way to much into this. It's the Bible and it means what it says. If people lived 900 years...that means 900 years. God made it that way. It has nothing to do with oxygen or different calendars or any other far fetched reasoning.
3) believe what is written and don't add to it or take anything away. God gave this beautiful book to us to learn from and teach others. It is our ticket to the pearly gates! Take it literally!
