In classical Greek pharmakeia referred to the use of drugs whether for medicinal or more sinister purposes, e.g., poisoning. In the New Testament, however, it is invariably associated with the occult, both in Galatians [5:20] and in Revelation, where it occurs twice ( Rev 9:21; 18:23). English translations usually render pharmakeia as "witchcraft" (KJV, NIV) or "sorcery" (RSV, NEB). These words correctly convey the idea of black magic and demonic control, but they miss the more basic meaning of drug use. In New Testament times pharmakeia in fact denoted the use of drugs with occult properties for a variety of purposes including, especially, abortion.
What Adam has written is quite correct: it is the Holy Spirit Who takes up residence in those born again by Him. What you describe (taken from another source I guess), as God's Kingdom in us growing to bring us to maturity, is actually God's Spirit Who is doing the work of bringing us into deeper sanctification & maturing into Christ-likeness. The "battle that rages" within is that of the old carnal nature that is at war with the new nature from God. That is why the Apostle Paul said to "Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would." ( Galatians 5:16,17). And in verse 24, "And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts." So there is nothing to suggest God's Kingdom getting bigger in us, rather that we have determined to put aside sin & not obey its enticements - not allowing the carnal nature to control us, but God's Spirit given full control.
Now, there is a Scripture that some could use to support their errant belief: Luke 17:21, "Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you." The Greek word for 'within' is 'entos' which can mean 'within or among'. Jesus was speaking to the Pharisees who certainly did not recognize nor accept Jesus as Messiah, so the meaning of 'within' wouldn't apply as they were certainly not holy vessels for God to come upon or within. I believe Jesus was speaking about Himself Who was already 'within their midst/amongst them' & they couldn't see Him because of their blindness & hardness of their hearts.
So when we allow the Holy Spirit to have more of our lives by being moved by Him rather than by our carnal flesh, then in truth, God's Spirit will delight to reign in His children & we shall see God's Hand move in wonderful ways in our lives. 2 Corinthians 6:16.
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them. ( Ephesians 2:8-10)
Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works. ( Titus 2:13-14)
We know that grace through faith in Jesus Christ saves us, but also we are saved unto good works. So it's a matter of a proper order of first becoming a child of God and then walking worthy in obedience to God's will.
A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them. ( Matthew 7:18-20)
For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ. Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble; Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is. If any man's work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward. If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire. ( 1 Corinthians 3:11-15)
The Church is the Body of Jesus Christ which is made up of sons and daughters of God. Those who are led by the Spirit of God are the Sons of God. The word "churches" we use today is just the places Christian people come together at certain times. Further, these groups have different ideas, then we call them "denominations". Church-buildings and denominations are not in the Bible and are not important.
What is important is to hear the Gospel, have faith to believe, repent of our sin, be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ, and get the Holy Spirit. That is all.
All souls belong to God . We all have a purpose in life . We all were created by God . He wants all souls to be SAVED, and all can be if they follow his word. It tells us how to live , what to do , what not to do . How to look for a help meet in life a companion. We're not to just take anyone to be our husband or wife . God has guidelines for us all to follow.
He told us to seek the kingdom of God first and then all these things would added unto us. God also tells us to be patient . Wait on him. God never fails he's alway true and faithful . Its people who let Hid down by not trusting in his word and living his word , not just saying your a Christian, but actually living it out the Bible way .
Yes we can all live it . God said in Several Chapters Go an sin No more . Would God tell us to Not sin if we couldn't do it by his help and Grace? No, he wouldn't . John 3 ch. John 8 ch. , John 5 ch. Romans 6:1-2Romans 3:23-251 John 3:1-11 all these and there's more . We all need to be ready when the Lord comes back . Oh what a day of Rejoicing it will truly be fir his Saints .the really saved . Not just say I am when not. Can't go to Heaven with any type of sin in your life at all. None of us . 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 , Galatians 5:16-21.Gid came to show us the way he wants all Souls to be Saved Ezekiel 18:4. If we put God First he will give us also the desires of our heart to . But , we need to very careful what we ask for to have .It can hinder you in walking with God daily or even cause you to go astray from God and never get back .
If you Seek the kingdom of God First Let God Know you truly want to live for him and do as his word tells us and do it from the Heart . Let God know your willing to do it his way . Get o. Your knees and ask for forgiveness , if you've sinned . Truly Repent and to never go back to sin . God will bless your life . Genesis 2:18
"And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him."
why those who profess the faith alone concept to be saved have built their own churches with differing names where they conduct their so called fellowship. All of these are deeds or actions of faith, right? And they are teaching, just accept Christ and your faith alone can save you. So if a person does that - having faith alone in Christ - no need for him to join any denominations, right? In this connection, why God said that there are people who serve Him with their lips only but their hearts are not but are looking after their own benefits?
Please help me to answer this question thank you. God bless
Ask the Holy Spirit to find you a Church - In Reply on Galatians 5 - 4 years ago
This is a subject everyone tries to prove this day or that day.
The Bible also says, don't forsake gathering together. It didn't instruct a certain day.
In my evangelical experiences, it is more important to attend a Church that actually opens the Bible and teaches the scriptures.
I do not believe a Church that expounds on marriage counseling, parenting, being an active citizen in projects: not growing their lambs up into full grown sheep; to follow the Shepherd who is Jesus Christ. We have such a short time to help our children know who Christ is: before they have a public school try to beat it out of them. Parents are pastors too. Deuteronomy 11:19. The first churches were in homes.
The Bible is supposed to change lives; put life into the perspective of our Saviors Life and Ministry. Acts 2:42-47
Our lives will default back to simplicity if we turn off the tv and actually talk to each other. Refuse cell phones to teens till they can pay for it themselves and for the monthly service. It's not cruel. It teaches responsibility, good credit rating, budgeting time, balancing time to earn money, do their "jobs" to pay their bills. Life skills 101.
I have a hated sermon called: don't end up on the Dr Phil show. My Dad always told me "I'm doing this for your own good". Forcing me to learn car maintenance 101. I miss him so much. I taught it to my son and he was 21 when he bought his first house. He taught his 7 yr old to fix a leaking toilet last week.
Kids just want some of your time, you know? The rewards far outweigh the laundry waiting 1 day. They're so smart if you pour yourself into them. Kinda like Jesus did with his disciples.
My first solo street ministry ended with me telling a group of drunks they were going to hell. Later I was Dejected! The Lord said: are you done doing it your way? I was hearing him in my spirit! I said, Yes Sir!! My life has been sad. I met Jesus. It's been the best since then.
The Lord Jesus Christ is absolutely the greatest emancipator:
And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. ( John 8:32)
If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed. ( John 8:36)
The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower. ( Psalm 18:2)
The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.( Luke 4:18-19)
For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death. ( Romans 8:2)
Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage. ( Galatians 5:1)
Hello. If you truly care about him. Along with him saying he would listen to you about God. What I would say or start with is: "Why does he worship satan and where did he learn about him from"? As this could have come to him in many ways like music, family, trend, etc. Then just try to tell him the truth that satan does not care about him or anyone but himself. The devil knows he is already damned and just wants to destroy as many lives as he can. Here are a couple Bible verses I looked up showing that satan is the enemy and is already damned.
Matthew 4:1-10 , Jesus being tempted by him in the desert.
John 16:11 , the devil(prince of this world) has already been judged
Revelation 12:7-9 , satan being cast down to earth
Revelation 20:1-15 , satan cast into the lake of fire
Jude 1:6-9 , fallen angels and Michael Archangel contending with devil
John 8:44 , devil is the father of lies
Galatians 5:19-21 , lusts of the flesh(what the devil wants people to do)
Along with the others who responded to you. All else I can really say is be careful. Pray to our Father and Jesus Christ to lead you. Maybe try to read through the Bible with him. Show him that Jesus Christ is the only way. He may turn from satan or you may have to leave him. You will be in my prayers. God Bless.
THE LAW versus UNMERITED FAVOR OF GOD on Genesis 1 - 4 years ago
GRACE IS UNMERITED FAVOR FROM GOD. (You didn't earn it)
Romans 10:4 - For Christ is the END OF THE LAW, for righteousness to every one that believeth.
Romans 6:14 - For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye ARE NOT under the law, but UNDER GRACE.
Romans 7:7 - What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet.
Romans 3:31 - Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law.
Romans 7:6 - But now WE ARE DELIVERED from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that WE SHOULD serve in newness of spirit, AND NOT in the oldness of the letter.
Galatians 3:10 - For as many as are of the works of the law are UNDER THE CURSE, for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them.
James 2:10 - For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.
Romans 7:4 - Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ;
Galatians 5:18 - But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.
Romans 8:1-39 - There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are IN Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
Romans 3:28 - Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by FAITH, without the deeds of the law.
* Ephesians 2:8 - For by GRACE are ye saved through FAITH; and that not of yourselves: it is the GIFT OF GOD:
This is for those who still persist in telling women that they are to be silent In Church and save all their questions for their husbands.
What if a woman is Not married, and chooses to live single like Apostle Paul?
What if the woman is saved and chooses to live within the grace of God and in the freedom that is in Christ?
There is only way to heaven you must obey Acts 2:38! Eph 4:5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism. We must be baptized in Jesus name not sprinkled water on. We must be baptized in Jesus name. The name of the father is Jesus, the name of the son is Jesus the name of the Holyghost is Jesus and the Bible says these three are one. In Revelation John saw one one the throne.
Jesus fulfilled the law in his sinless life and obedience unto his sacrificial death on the cross as substitute for sinners, being then raised from the dead for our justification:
Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life. For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous. ( Romans 5:18-19)
I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain. ( Galatians 2:21)
For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace. ( Romans 6:14)
Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God. For when we were in the flesh, the motions of sins, which were by the law, did work in our members to bring forth fruit unto death. But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter. ( Romans 7:4-6)
Tell me, ye that desire to be under the law, do ye not hear the law? For it is written, that Abraham had two sons, the one by a bondmaid, the other by a freewoman. But he who was of the bondwoman was born after the flesh; but he of the freewoman was by promise. Which things are an allegory: for these are the two covenants; the one from the mount Sinai, which gendereth to bondage, which is Agar. For this Agar is mount Sinai in Arabia, and answereth to Jerusalem which now is, and is in bondage with her children. But Jerusalem which is above is free, which is the mother of us all. ( Galatians 4:21-26)
Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage. ( Galatians 5:1)
Please forgive me but your belief in the "power of Christ", in you, is in no way what His power is. You seem to be making up the assumption that you cannot sin anymore. Are you still in a physical body? Do you still have to eat and sleep and go to the bathroom? These are physical things not spiritual. You are still here and you can still sin. The fight is not over until your last breath. Which is to strive to live in the Spirit, inside you, and produce fruit that is pleasing to God. If you truly love God with all your heart would you not strive to do what makes Him happy? This is not to think you can't sin anymore and just do whatever you want, to make yourself happy, and say "I'm dead to the law". This is how satan want's you to think not God.
Galatians 5:16-26 goes over this quiet well. Giving a big list of "works" of the flesh to stay away from. As there are more also. Then giving a list of the fruit of the Holy Spirit being love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance. As there are also more. Then saying "against such there is no law." There is no law to one living by the footsteps of Jesus Christ. Not just making up your own thoughts on what is truly right and wrong. Is it right to God is what we should be seeking because that is what makes Him happy.
Do you think it's ok for people to just be having rampant sexual relations, women getting pregnant, and then just having abortions? Do you think God would be more pleased in people with self control or those who can't stop going after their bodily lusts getting women pregnant on accident?
Yes Christ died for all our sins and He can forgive anyone of anything. But not so you can just keep sinning and think it's ok. That is taking His gift, Jesus Christ, in vain. The only time you are truly going to be dead to sin is when your life here ends. Sin runs rampant on this earth or just call it evil, bad or wrong. Resist the devil.
Christians who sue other Christians on Genesis 1 - 4 years ago
Comment:
A whole day has been used up for this controversy. Sometimes you just have to leave it on the throne that Jesus is sitting on. He is the judge. We are to make righteous judgements and on the sinning after Grace has come: this is an issue to leave with Jesus. He will undertake. Live in the light you are given. Beware of teaching Jesus's lambs something else.
2 Peter 2:1
But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.
1 Corinthians 11:19
For there must be also heresies among you, that they which are approved may be made manifest among you.
Please the almighty God is capital'G' god of the world is small'g'. Well our God desire that title like any official name has capitalize. May God be with you. Mireille Newman.
The best evidence of the Holy Spirit in a person is that Jesus Christ is glorified:
( John 16:13-15) - Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you. All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you.
( 1 Corinthians 12:3) - Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost.
The same chapter 12 in 1 Corinthians lists certain gifts of the Spirit and explains their true purpose; to build up the Church. Tongues was but one of the sign gifts. Paul teaches its proper place in 1 Corinthians chapter 14.
Ephesians chapter 5 exhorts us to walk worthy and be filled with the Spirit.
The fruit of the Spirit is evidence of our walking in the Spirit:
( Galatians 5:22-23) But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
Great reply brother. I don't find your examples strange at all. They are perfect. Just as you stated that there are countless things that go on in our everyday lives. That the Ten Commandments may not shed light on. As bringing up examples or "parables", just as Jesus did, helps people understand which way is the right way. It truly is a help to other people that may not understand things in the Bible.
One thing I wanted to share with you is last night it came to me to check a couple passages and put them to the Ten Commandments. In Mark 7:21-23 where Jesus is teaching about evil thoughts from within that "defile a person". The other is Galatians 5:19-23 where Paul states of the "works of the flesh" and "fruit if the Holy Spirit". With these two lists you can match up all the Ten Commandments. The seven of things to veer away from and the three things that God wants us to do. Just looking at those two list there is much more detailed information of things to repent from and things to seek after or focus on. Like you stated about many examples, there still are more things than just those written. Also just another guideline, to help us, from the Lord.
It is so true that we will be faced with things, in this life, that no person has spoken of. Or is written about. It is also true that not everyone is to be Blessed to receive the Holy Spirit in this life. As the Comforter and teacher for us from the Lord. I still believe God to be in all of us as He knows everything about everyone. It is truly a great treasure, and gift, to have the Spirit of Christ reside in us. A wonderful teaching, as all are, of Jesus Christ is Luke 6:27-38. Also the simple but "golden" rule of "Do unto others as you would want them to do to you."
Hope you have a great weekend Chris. God Bless my brother.
Hello Chris. I very much enjoy reading yours posts and agree. Jesus Christ truly is the only way. I was just conversing with a man the other night on this matter. As he seemed content we need to follow not just the Ten Commandments but all of the 613 Jewish laws. I posted, as brother Dan did, Matthew 22:36-40. Brother Dan you have Matthew 23 but you quoted the passages, from 22, perfectly. Just to note. As Jesus stated "On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets." Which I believe are the most important things we should be focusing on which is Love. Of God, Christ, and one another. I also posted this passage: Galatians 5:22-23 "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law." This being written by Paul that of the fruit from the Holy Spirit, we receive, and flourish in, against such there is no law.
I also stated knowing the Ten Commandments by heart. It seems, after being saved by the Lord, that all these things are no longer a burden at all to follow. It seems to comes naturally from a power not of my own. All of the 613 Jewish laws? Now there is a problem. As it says people should be stoned to death and burned at the stake. Along with many other things I know the Lord does not condone.
Hopefully, my brothers, we can all just help one another through these peaceful conversations. We all need Jesus Christ as no one cometh unto the Father but by Him. John 14:6. God Bless
I just feel to post about how much discord I see among people on things between the OT and NT. Not really here. It seems many people are taking to follow old Jewish laws more seriously than what Christ came to teach. Some believe that to be following the Lord rather than that of producing good fruits of the Holy Spirit within us. Galatians 5:22-23. Some denounce the writings of Saul/Paul. Where there are many wonderful things in his books that surround the Lord.
It just saddens me to see some people focus on things before Jesus Christ came to us. Sticking to those things rather than what Christ and His apostles teach. I know there is much wisdom and the Word of God in the OT. We must all be careful. As, I have no interest in looking it up again, where I have read it is ok to kill a servant under certain circumstances. Would people really believe this was the Will of God? Or as when the people were going to stone the adulterous, under the law, and Jesus kept them from doing such a thing. Of coarse the pharisees and sadducees put Christ to death because they did not believe/agree with Him. As some of the hundreds of Jewish laws are good to abide by in my eyes. It is only a small percentage of the whole list. I do not condemn, or hate, anyone. It always makes me sad to see people argue, especially over things like this.
I believe what "Brother Dan" posted about Gods law being the Ten Commandments. And what Chris stated as in reply on Psalms 72. I truly pray for all to come to the Lord to see with His eyes, and hear with His ears, and to live for Gods Will and to glorify Him always. God Bless everyone!
Romans 3:31 is a great verse but looking at what Paul said earlier, i.e. "Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin. But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets; Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference" (3:20-22).
A few things here: Paul was speaking to all there (both Jew & Gentile converts) yet some stumbled on this matter, particularly from Jewry who were once under the Law & were circumcised, which marked them as God's chosen. To those still applying the Law to their lives & putting themselves under it, are obliged to keep all the Law ( Galatians 5:3). And "whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all." ( James 2:10). But the Law was given to Israel, not only as God's Standard of living for them, but to show them that they couldn't keep the Law, rather they fell far short of it. Hence, each year animal sacrifice was made to cover those sins. But after Jesus' death & resurrection, those who come by faith to Him are no longer bound to the Law, as God's Gift to us was the only One to have fully kept (& fulfilled) its Holy demands.
So Paul makes a clear distinction: either you keep the whole Law & by it you will be judged: "as many as have sinned in the law shall be judged by the law" ( Romans 2:12), or you take hold of God's Righteousness which comes by faith in Christ. There's no possibility of fusing the two together for they oppose each other. "Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace" ( Galatians 5:4). So the observance of the Sabbath day was a hallmark of Israel & they faithfully observed it. To make the Sabbath observance mandatory now means that we are no longer in the liberty of Christ but in bondage ( Galatians 5:1).
Trying to find scriptural meanings and/or discussion regarding definitions and contextual differences pertaining to: transgression(s), sin(s), mistake(s), iniquity(ies), although I don't find mistake(s) in scripture. Thanks much.
"But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, reasonable, full of mercy and good fruits, unwavering, without hypocrisy" ( James 3:17).
Let's consider these pillars as the practical actions or way of life that we are pursuing. We'll also look at the fruit of the Spirit in Galatians 5:22-23 (the outward expression of wisdom), the beatitudes in Matthew 5:3-12 (the character traits of a wise person), and Peter's list of qualities in 2 Peter 1:5-8 (the spiritual disciplines of the wise Christ-follower).
Comment: I think James is speaking of our "spiritual" house; not actual construction of a house.
In our bodies we are the Temple of God. We should be mindful about what we bring into it (not defile it with other kinds of religion that do not come from the Bible).
Doris, God never signs off on any abuse. God is about the abundant life and a husband is supposed to love you like he loves himself. He clearly doesn't love himself. Any abuse is unacceptable! If you are being mistreated, you have the right to divorce your husband, ASAP!...The longer you stay, the longer the relationship will drain you of your self-esteem.

Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works. ( Titus 2:13-14)

Please help me to answer this question thank you. God bless
Mishael
God Bless.

Mishael
Also, please read Romans 8.
Being humble is meekness and humility.
Galatians 5:20
Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,
1 Timothy Chapter 1
5 Now the end of the commandment is charity out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned:
6 From which some having swerved have turned aside unto vain jangling;
7 Desiring to be teachers of the law; understanding neither what they say, nor whereof they affirm.
8 But we know that the law is good, if a man use it lawfully;
1 Corinthians 14:33 - For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.
1 Corinthians 12:25
That there should be no schism in the body; but that the members should have the same care one for another.
We are not to go to law with each other.
Mishael
Why can't men reason with one another.
Galatians 5:14
