We see the kinsman redeemer in Leviticus 25:25. and we see it carried out in the book of Ruth chapters 1-4.
we see in Revelation 5:1-5. we see a book written within and on the backside, sealed with seven seals. and no one was able to open the book but the Lord Jesus. If you notice verse 3 it had to be a "MAN"/Human. And he had to be able. Perfect/Sinless. and he has to be willing. This could only happen by the deity of Christ in his Human form.
(His deity, He cannot sin.) (His humanity, He can take on our sin.) His humanity makes him our kinsman redeemer.

I will comment on versus 14-15; the Old Testament was called the handwriting of ordinances as in Ephesians 2:14-16, which was blotted out as it was against Christians, being contrary to Christians. Christ, took it out of the way, nailing the Old Testament to his cross, spoiling the principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them.
Let us be warned not to take down from the cross what the Lord Jesus nailed there, to build his church, or we too will be transgressors, knowing that any Christians who obeys one Old Testament law, is under the curse to obey all of them. Galatians 3:10

Hi Chris; Whenever I refer unto the Old Testament I also call it the law of Moses, because he was the mediator between God and Israel, however; the old covenant simple means the Ten Commandments in stone as in Deuteronomy 5:2-3 & Hebrews 9:4 - Jer. 31:31-34 and Hebrews 8:6-7 Genesis holds three covenants created before the Old Testament, Adam, Noah and Abraham all received a covenant, which was not the Old Testament. Then the angels created the Old Testament, Acts 7:53 & Galatians 3:19 During that dispensation, about 1,600 years or so, God gave the old covenant (Ten Commandments in stone) and the Davidical covenant, howbeit, neither of these were the Old Testament. It is generally speculated that the Old Testament has 613 laws, actually all of which should be in the book of Leviticus, meaning the O.T. specifically is only Leviticus, all other books before the New Testament are not the Old Testament, they are written during that dispensation, although some of them, like Exodus, numbers and Deuteronomy have some of the O.T. written within it. Therefore; you cannot put the four gospels in the Old Testament, as they do not contain any Old Testament laws, neither do they contain obedience to the old covenant, meaning the Ten Commandments in stone. Thank you for taking the time to write back, Dr. Lee. From what you've written, the Old Testament was an angelic creation, ordained by them, & not part of the given Law. I hope I've understood this correctly. However, when re-reading Acts 7:53 & Galatians 3:19, I see that in both verses, the Law is spoken of (not splitting it between the Decalogue & the 613 Laws, where one is the Law & the other, the Old Testament).
When we consider that the title, 'Old Testament' was the creation of a division because of the increased volume of books (NT) & for necessity's sake, done in the 2nd Century AD, we accept that the Old Testament was simply an identification & creation of a partition of what was a collection of biblical records pre-Christ from those post-Christ. Indeed, much of the Gospels should actually be placed in the OT for that reason. And the word "testament", which means 'a covenant, an agreement', would simply show that this older part of the Bible contained the five covenants made by God with His people & all that transpired from them. But I see that you understand this term, 'Old Testament', differently, & it's this aspect that intrigued me, & even after the references you gave, I still cannot see the meaning you shared (at least from the Scriptures), between the Old Covenant (singular, pertaining to the Mosaic) & the Old Testament (incorporating all the Covenants plus the prophecies & other writings).
Glad to see your interest in the difference between the old covenant and the Old Testament, as the old covenant was writing with the finger of God, the Old Testament was created by angels. We are first told this truth from Steven in Acts 7:53 he taught the law of Moses was given by the disposition of angels, then the apostle Paul taught in Galatians 3:19 the Old Testament was ordained by angels. These words are interchangeable, as they have the same meaning, to set in order, or to create, meaning, it was not God who created the Old Testament, it was the angels. When understanding that this law was destroyed by the Lord Jesus on Calvary from Ephesians 2:14-16 and Colossians 2:14-15 our focus must be only on those 613 laws regarding, the seven feasts of Israel, animal sacrifices, clean and unclean, new moons and sabbaths, and such like. We never refer to the prophecies that were written during that dispensation as part of the law being destroyed, as these were not the law of Moses at all. Just like Psalms and proverbs and so forth, these are not the Old Testament, they were written during that dispensation, but this does not make them part of that ceremonial law. Today we follow the New Testament and the new covenant, which are the Ten Commandments written in the heart, we also observe the gospel and the gospel of the kingdom, as Christians today, but we are forbidden to obey one Old Testament law as it will bring a curse upon Christians to obey all the O.T. It is true when you say today we give from the heart, but this is not the case when you are being told Malachi 3:8-10 God will curse you if you do not tithe. Why do people not understand that in Malachi, God wanted meat in his house, not money, as Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy all testify that tithing has nothing to do with money, it is always about fruits, vegetables and animals, and a man must eat his tithe with his wife, children, slaves, and a Levitical priest, once every year. I desire to comment on verse four alone, when God swore, he made a promise, that the Lord Jesus Christ would be a priest forever, after the order of Melchizedek. From this promise we understand that the whole Old Testament is of no longer any value to Christianity, why, due to the fact it remains under the priesthood of Levi, knowing Christ was not from that tribe, but from the tribe of Judah. Therefore he cannot go under the Old Testament law as a priest to help anyone, thus, the Apostle Paul concludes; Galatians 5:1-4 if you obey even one Old Testament law, Christ will profit you nothing, you are fallen from grace, being cursed to obey all the Old Testament law because you obeyed one, Old Testament law. I would like to add one or two more things that I believe is to be very important. Whether by water baptism or baptism by the Holyspirit, is it evident in your life that spiritual baptism has taken place.
You will run into 2 major groups engage on this topic. One group is those who believe you are saved by confessing Jesus and keeping the commandments. Some of this group believe you can lose your salvation. This group is bond to a work base religion.
The other group believes "for by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
Even the faith you are being saved through is not your faith! it is a gift of God!
You have nothing to offer God in terms of salvation! I hold this view.
True baptism when you "GENUINELY" accept Christ as your savior there is production in your life that begins. You can't produce it or keep it from producing as you feed on the word.

Notice Paul' he didn't have much to say about water baptism, but he had a lot to say about baptism by the Holyspirit.

Abraham's blessing to Issac was because he was Promised! He was God's doing! We are children of Promise as well.

I believe we see the contract of Works and Grace, Flesh and Spirit, The narrow gate and the wide gate. And the putting asleep of Abraham when the unconditional covenant was made. All in These verses.
Amen Rick, well written. Yet, the matter of "the cross removing the curse of the law" & "after being born again start with a clean slate", might have bearing on what a believer should do when confronted with the Law in the Bible. Most will 'play safe' & want to obey the Law because it's in the Word after all, & the right thing to do before God. But the Scriptures tell us in Galatians 3:10,13, that the Law which is Holy from God, now becomes a curse to those still under it or those who put themselves there. And that Christ has redeemed us from that curse & by extension, has set us free ( Galatians 5:1).
Maybe, folk haven't thought it through when they say, 'I obey the Ten Commandments' or, "I follow God's Laws". I can understand what they mean, but theologically, it's a dangerous statement, because one cannot be "in Christ" & "under the Law" simultaneously. It's one or the other. If bound to the Law, judgement comes from that position. If bound to Christ, the Law & its curse are removed, we're set free, & we're led in newness of life in obedience & maturing by the Spirit.
Hello Rick. That's interesting that you mention Colossians 2:16-20. In the sermon this morning, I was directed to Colossians 2:12-15 - verses just before the ones you gave. It came as a confirmation of what the New Covenant in Christ's Blood accomplished: "Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross". The Law as given was truly "holy, and the commandment holy, and just, and good", but it failed to make a man righteous, rather to point him to his inability to keep it & his need of a Saviour.
Galatians 3:19-23: "Wherefore then serveth the law? It was added because of transgressions, till the seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was ordained by angels in the hand of a mediator. Now a mediator is not a mediator of one, but God is one. Is the law then against the promises of God? God forbid: for if there had been a law given which could have given life, verily righteousness should have been by the law. But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe. But before faith came, we were kept under the law, shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed."
And this faith that leads to salvation came after the work at the Cross was accomplished & the Holy Spirit was sent to give those earnestly seeking forgiveness, giving to them God's Grace & Faith to believe ( Ephesians 2:8). The Sabbath might be holy but if the Jewish rigidity of obedience is ascribed to it by Christians under the Blood, then both it & the whole Law nullifies one of the core accomplishments of the Cross: liberty to walk & obey in the Spirit & not by the letter.
That's how I see it. Any labor on my part which is not under the persuasion (PEITHO/faith) of God's Spirit, that labor is in vain. I was just reading through Galatians Chapter 3, and Galatians 3:3 stood out to me which says "Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh?
So Paul is addressing these people (Celtics/Gauls), and he's basically reminding them that they received Christ by faith, but after being saved by faith, are you now made perfect by the flesh (Human works)? They were being told that they could receive the Messiah but they still needed to keep the law in order to be saved. But in Galatians, we are told grace/faith are not to be mixed with fleshly works.
Today, people are being told that you are saved by faith alone, but once you're saved, then your salvation becomes works based. There's only one thing a person must do and that is to surrender their life to Christ.
If we began in the Spirit by faith, are we now made complete, or mature, by the works of the flesh? I can't speak for anyone else, but personally for myself, there isn't anything that I can do in the human. In fact, the more I do in the human when it comes to the things of Christ, the more I take away from His finished work. I can't add to it. I can only receive and believe!
You may want to go back over what you are disagreeing on.
The Emphasis here is by faith Abraham was counted righteous APART from the deeds of the Law.

A conditional covenant is an agreement between two or more parties that requires certain terms to be met. If the terms are met, there will be one kind of result (favorable). If the terms are not met, there will be a different result (unfavorable).
The case we have here is Abraham had no participation in the oath being made therefore he was not bound to an oath.
It was the Lord given the promise and it was "HE" who confirmed it with an oath.

This is what's being attacked by those crept in from unawares.
If feminism means that women should be entitled to & hold equal rights & privileges in society as men, that cannot be contradicted or argued. Even "in Christ", there is "neither male or female" ( Galatians 3:28) as both are one in equal standing before God & receivers of His Goodness.
But if feminism implies more than this, then it's the workings & lusts of one's heart & not according to God's Word. Such pursuits can never 'destroy Christianity' because it then has to stand against what is revealed in the Word & the Standards set by God. Feminism might seem to have some effect on Christianity, but if it does, one should ask, 'what brand of Christianity do we refer to?' Is it according to God's Word & God's pursuit of man or on man's word & his pursuit of God? If "the gates of hell cannot prevail" against the Church (or, the outworking of our faith of God in Christ), I sincerely doubt if feminism or any other 'ism' or evil threat, can overpower what God has established & will both now & ultimately be victorious.

You mentioned John 3:5. Romans 6:1-6. Galatians 3:26-27. and Acts 2:38. The only verse of the 4 mentioned that has anything to do with water baptism is Acts 2:38. and you apply it wrong when you use it as proof of an requirement for salvation. Peter is talking to Jews who had the word of God who had a God given religion, who knew the prophesies concerning a messiah. But they trusted in the Law that couldn't regenerate a soul.
"The law was their schoolmaster" Galatians 3:24. They are to turn around and come Gods way. John the Baptist was the forerunner for this message preaching the baptism of repentance "TO THE JEWS".
The old covenant they offered up sacrifices that couldn't save but pointed to the Lamb of God.
Here they're asked to repent and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins. Water Baptism would be the evidence that "THEY" had repented, That they had come to Christ and put their trust in Him! Rather than bring a sacrifice to be offered.
As the sacrifices was a "foreshadowing' of Christ, Water baptism "Demonstrates" the Death and resurrection, In that demonstration THERE'S NO QUIKENING INVOLVED HERE! Only when we believed, Christ died We died!
That brings us to these other verses you mentioned. Galatians 3:26-28. and Romans 6:1-6. Have you noticed the phrase "BAPTIZED INTO" in Romans and Galatians? This speaks of the work of the Holyspirit to those who "TRULY" believed! they have been put into the body of believers.
After this occurs We should be barring fruit and have great concern there, Because that is something you cant produce on your own! This happens only "IF" you have been truly put in Christ. IDENTIFIED with his Death and resurrection. "The Baptism of the Holyspirit". you inherit the promise of Abraham. Galatians 3:18-29.
That is the context of the verses you have given.
These verses describes the work of the cross and true profession.
We see the kinsman redeemer in Leviticus 25:25. and we see it carried out in the book of Ruth chapters 1-4.
we see in Revelation 5:1-5. we see a book written within and on the backside, sealed with seven seals. and no one was able to open the book but the Lord Jesus. If you notice verse 3 it had to be a "MAN"/Human. And he had to be able. Perfect/Sinless. and he has to be willing. This could only happen by the deity of Christ in his Human form.
(His deity, He cannot sin.) (His humanity, He can take on our sin.) His humanity makes him our kinsman redeemer.

When we consider that the title, 'Old Testament' was the creation of a division because of the increased volume of books (NT) & for necessity's sake, done in the 2nd Century AD, we accept that the Old Testament was simply an identification & creation of a partition of what was a collection of biblical records pre-Christ from those post-Christ. Indeed, much of the Gospels should actually be placed in the OT for that reason. And the word "testament", which means 'a covenant, an agreement', would simply show that this older part of the Bible contained the five covenants made by God with His people & all that transpired from them. But I see that you understand this term, 'Old Testament', differently, & it's this aspect that intrigued me, & even after the references you gave, I still cannot see the meaning you shared (at least from the Scriptures), between the Old Covenant (singular, pertaining to the Mosaic) & the Old Testament (incorporating all the Covenants plus the prophecies & other writings).
Glad to see your interest in the difference between the old covenant and the Old Testament, as the old covenant was writing with the finger of God, the Old Testament was created by angels. We are first told this truth from Steven in Acts 7:53 he taught the law of Moses was given by the disposition of angels, then the apostle Paul taught in Galatians 3:19 the Old Testament was ordained by angels. These words are interchangeable, as they have the same meaning, to set in order, or to create, meaning, it was not God who created the Old Testament, it was the angels. When understanding that this law was destroyed by the Lord Jesus on Calvary from Ephesians 2:14-16 and Colossians 2:14-15 our focus must be only on those 613 laws regarding, the seven feasts of Israel, animal sacrifices, clean and unclean, new moons and sabbaths, and such like. We never refer to the prophecies that were written during that dispensation as part of the law being destroyed, as these were not the law of Moses at all. Just like Psalms and proverbs and so forth, these are not the Old Testament, they were written during that dispensation, but this does not make them part of that ceremonial law. Today we follow the New Testament and the new covenant, which are the Ten Commandments written in the heart, we also observe the gospel and the gospel of the kingdom, as Christians today, but we are forbidden to obey one Old Testament law as it will bring a curse upon Christians to obey all the O.T. Knowing if you do, you are cursed as a Christians to obey all 613 laws from the Old Testament. It is true when you say today we give from the heart, but this is not the case when you are being told Malachi 3:8-10 God will curse you if you do not tithe. Why do people not understand that in Malachi, God wanted meat in his house, not money, as Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy all testify that tithing has nothing to do with money, it is always about fruits, vegetables and animals, and a man must eat his tithe with his wife, children, slaves, and a Levitical priest, once every year. I would like to add one or two more things that I believe is to be very important. Whether by water baptism or baptism by the Holyspirit, is it evident in your life that spiritual baptism has taken place.
You will run into 2 major groups engage on this topic. One group is those who believe you are saved by confessing Jesus and keeping the commandments. Some of this group believe you can lose your salvation. This group is bond to a work base religion.
The other group believes "for by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
Even the faith you are being saved through is not your faith! it is a gift of God!
You have nothing to offer God in terms of salvation! I hold this view.
True baptism when you "GENUINELY" accept Christ as your savior there is production in your life that begins. You can't produce it or keep it from producing as you feed on the word.

Notice Paul' he didn't have much to say about water baptism, but he had a lot to say about baptism by the Holyspirit.

Abraham's blessing to Issac was because he was Promised! He was God's doing! We are children of Promise as well.

I believe we see the contract of Works and Grace, Flesh and Spirit, The narrow gate and the wide gate. And the putting asleep of Abraham when the unconditional covenant was made. All in These verses.

Maybe, folk haven't thought it through when they say, 'I obey the Ten Commandments' or, "I follow God's Laws". I can understand what they mean, but theologically, it's a dangerous statement, because one cannot be "in Christ" & "under the Law" simultaneously. It's one or the other. If bound to the Law, judgement comes from that position. If bound to Christ, the Law & its curse are removed, we're set free, & we're led in newness of life in obedience & maturing by the Spirit.
Galatians 3:19-23: "Wherefore then serveth the law? It was added because of transgressions, till the seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was ordained by angels in the hand of a mediator. Now a mediator is not a mediator of one, but God is one. Is the law then against the promises of God? God forbid: for if there had been a law given which could have given life, verily righteousness should have been by the law. But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe. But before faith came, we were kept under the law, shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed."
And this faith that leads to salvation came after the work at the Cross was accomplished & the Holy Spirit was sent to give those earnestly seeking forgiveness, giving to them God's Grace & Faith to believe ( Ephesians 2:8). The Sabbath might be holy but if the Jewish rigidity of obedience is ascribed to it by Christians under the Blood, then both it & the whole Law nullifies one of the core accomplishments of the Cross: liberty to walk & obey in the Spirit & not by the letter.

the idea is our rest is in the believing of what was accomplished by Jesus Christ spiritually which fulfills the
law. The law was our schoolmaster until Christ Galatians 3:21-29 if someone declares that if I by occupation
or choose to go to a fellowship in a house and not a building with a steeple and cross does that make me
a sinner? My bible says the church are the people eklesia which is a gathering of people who come together
for one common purpose ours is to worship and love God. We who walk by the spirit fulfill the law.
That's how I see it. Any labor on my part which is not under the persuasion (PEITHO/faith) of God's Spirit, that labor is in vain. I was just reading through Galatians Chapter 3, and Galatians 3:3 stood out to me which says "Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh?
So Paul is addressing these people (Celtics/Gauls), and he's basically reminding them that they received Christ by faith, but after being saved by faith, are you now made perfect by the flesh (Human works)? They were being told that they could receive the Messiah but they still needed to keep the law in order to be saved. But in Galatians, we are told grace/faith are not to be mixed with fleshly works.
Today, people are being told that you are saved by faith alone, but once you're saved, then your salvation becomes works based. There's only one thing a person must do and that is to surrender their life to Christ.
If we began in the Spirit by faith, are we now made complete, or mature, by the works of the flesh? I can't speak for anyone else, but personally for myself, there isn't anything that I can do in the human. In fact, the more I do in the human when it comes to the things of Christ, the more I take away from His finished work. I can't add to it. I can only receive and believe!

Here in Genesis 22 what is it Abraham believed in? This is about 33 years after the "PROMISE OF ISAAC" in Genesis 15.
Answer: Hebrews 11:17-19. By faith Abraham, when he was tried, offered up Isaac: and he that had received the promises offered up his only begotten son,
Of whom it was said, That in Isaac shall thy seed be called:
ACCOUNTING THAT GOD WAS ABLE TO RAISE HIM UP, EVEN FROM THE DEAD; from whence also he received him in a figure.
Abraham stumbled with these promises.

A conditional covenant is an agreement between two or more parties that requires certain terms to be met. If the terms are met, there will be one kind of result (favorable). If the terms are not met, there will be a different result (unfavorable).
The case we have here is Abraham had no participation in the oath being made therefore he was not bound to an oath.
It was the Lord given the promise and it was "HE" who confirmed it with an oath.
Hebrews 6:13-14.
Hebrews 6:17.
It didn't take obedience of the Law to form the Covenant.
Galatians 3:17-18.

But if feminism implies more than this, then it's the workings & lusts of one's heart & not according to God's Word. Such pursuits can never 'destroy Christianity' because it then has to stand against what is revealed in the Word & the Standards set by God. Feminism might seem to have some effect on Christianity, but if it does, one should ask, 'what brand of Christianity do we refer to?' Is it according to God's Word & God's pursuit of man or on man's word & his pursuit of God? If "the gates of hell cannot prevail" against the Church (or, the outworking of our faith of God in Christ), I sincerely doubt if feminism or any other 'ism' or evil threat, can overpower what God has established & will both now & ultimately be victorious.

You mentioned John 3:5. Romans 6:1-6. Galatians 3:26-27. and Acts 2:38. The only verse of the 4 mentioned that has anything to do with water baptism is Acts 2:38. and you apply it wrong when you use it as proof of an requirement for salvation. Peter is talking to Jews who had the word of God who had a God given religion, who knew the prophesies concerning a messiah. But they trusted in the Law that couldn't regenerate a soul.
"The law was their schoolmaster" Galatians 3:24. They are to turn around and come Gods way. John the Baptist was the forerunner for this message preaching the baptism of repentance "TO THE JEWS".
The old covenant they offered up sacrifices that couldn't save but pointed to the Lamb of God.
Here they're asked to repent and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins. Water Baptism would be the evidence that "THEY" had repented, That they had come to Christ and put their trust in Him! Rather than bring a sacrifice to be offered.
As the sacrifices was a "foreshadowing' of Christ, Water baptism "Demonstrates" the Death and resurrection, In that demonstration THERE'S NO QUIKENING INVOLVED HERE! Only when we believed, Christ died We died!
That brings us to these other verses you mentioned. Galatians 3:26-28. and Romans 6:1-6. Have you noticed the phrase "BAPTIZED INTO" in Romans and Galatians? This speaks of the work of the Holyspirit to those who "TRULY" believed! they have been put into the body of believers.
After this occurs We should be barring fruit and have great concern there, Because that is something you cant produce on your own! This happens only "IF" you have been truly put in Christ. IDENTIFIED with his Death and resurrection. "The Baptism of the Holyspirit". you inherit the promise of Abraham. Galatians 3:18-29.
That is the context of the verses you have given.
These verses describes the work of the cross and true profession.
