I wouldn't agree to that statement, Teresa. Sin, in all its forms, intensities & sneaky ways, somehow manages to affect each one of us so furnished with the sin nature. Even when we think that we might have overcome all sin, we will soon be disappointed to find that we have slipped up somewhere. Anything not of God, not found within His Holiness & Perfection, has the potential to become sin to us when allowed to manifest itself. Many ascetics, monks, & such like have tried to achieve perfection or even a 'nirvana', but have to admit that they have 'slipped up' along the way & perfection is not achievable in this life.

That is why the Apostle Paul, in his letters, teaches & encourages all to crucify the flesh (to put to death sin that comes from our sinful nature with our "affections & lusts") & to live & walk in the Spirit ( Galatians 5:24,25). Sin is always near our 'door', ready to trip us & entrap us - if we're walking in the Spirit, we will be sensitive to sin & its approach, but being human means that we will also fail at times. Our walk will always be one of warfare - of being ever-conscious of sin's insidious ways to attack us. We have been given the Holy Spirit to make us alert to it & also His Armor to combat the enemy ( Ephesians 6:11-18), but all that is of no use, if we want to give in to sin & partake of its temptations. Yet, in all this, God is ready to forgive us when we slip up & He will restore us when we confess our error & seek to live for Him ( 1 John 1:9).

So even by reading the Bible all day & following the commands of the Lord, we still need to be on the alert because sin is ever ready to rear its ugly head. "Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall" ( 1 Corinthians 10:12), is an ever-present reminder never to think that we've made it to perfection, but to "take heed" - to be careful in every aspect of our lives before God.

Dear BILL WHITTINGHILL, in peace, yes it was a mistake, if u read further u will find that God Himself regret that He made human.

Genesis 6:6 And today we are the chosen one too set thing in order. Example 1 Peter 2:6 John 14:6 Make ppl see Jesus Christ only in Him thru The Holy Goust can we see God. Many see a different God today, but are driven away, becouse of the eval who is in them and the eval in the spiritual world, who every one not see. Ephesians 6:12-19 W e all need to come thru in Jesus.

I know nice ppl who have going too church for 40 years and they have the holy spirit in one way, but are bounded in television and work. I belive that God have a place for them. What i try to tell is: Not everybody sees the Spirit of the Holy. And remember we have all different work in the Lord. 1 Corintihans 12 And in that the eval can grow if they dont stop it by a gift they have. A friend may se it and pray to stop it.

    Galatians 6:2

Thats why Paul continue to tell us, dont give up! We must be standfast in the Word of God and dont complane. And Love Jesus and all ppl, and rases.

God bless us all in Jesus name, love u in Christ

I'm in the same boat you are. I have a woman I am trying to reconcile with that won't talk to me. Her mother is controlling of her and she lives in fear of me. She is stubborn and unapologetic. I am praying for you and your bf to get back together. God will make a way. For with God all things are possible. I am reminded of the story of the widow. No matter how many times she was told no she kept going back and asking for justice. In the same way Christ tells us to not give up praying for the one who we love. I feel a need to tell you God placed it in your heart let him do the work. It's hard to wait. God is it hard to wait, I have already waited almost six months and I say God where are you. God says right here. The Lord is with you. You have to trust He knows what he is doing. We as spirits fail at this but there is a verse in Ephesians 6:12. You are fighting a spiritual battle. Don't give into to what the devil wants. He wants to make you discourage and give up. We must stand together and not faint. For it is the devil tries to ruin. I stand in faith with you in Jesus name.

    Hi Laurie.

    Spiritual warfare.

In Ephesians 6:11. we see mentioned the Armour of God and also the wiles of the Devil.

Vs 11. "Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil."

In Ephesians 6:12. Is where I believe you will find your answer.

Vs 12. "For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places."

It's what's behind the scene wickedness is what are at war with, whether the prince of this world, (Satan) his governing and influence on those in the flesh. On nations, People, other religions and Some Churches. False teachers is spiritual warfare against the truth. Ministers of Satan!! One way ou recognize them is they have no purpose but lure you away from the truth. The Armour of God protects us.

    Here's an example.

Matthew 16:23. But he turned, and said unto Peter, GET THEE BEHIND ME, SATAN: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men. Jesus goes right to the source behind Peter.

    Also here.

Acts 16:16-18. And it came to pass, as we went to prayer, a certain damsel possessed with a spirit of divination met us, which brought her masters much gain by soothsaying:

The same followed Paul and us, and cried, saying, These men are the servants of the most high God, which shew unto us the way of salvation.

And this did she many days. But Paul, being grieved, turned and said to the spirit, I command thee in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her. And he came out the same hour.

    2 Corinthians 10:4-5.

    I hope this helps.

    God bless.

    Dgjot,

I'm responding to your reply without reading any of the responses, so my thoughts will stay focused. Just incase there's repeating._..

Being you're still alive, it's not final judgement: Matthew 4:17, Acts 17:30, 2Peter 3:9, in context read whole chapter. Psalms 48:14, Proverbs 10:12, Proverbs 13:14, Ezekiel 33:11, Ezekiel 18:32,

it could be warning from GOD: Psalms 118:18,

or attack not from GOD,: Ephesians 6:12,

    Psalms 90,

    Jeremiah 18:8,

    Psalms 37,

You are angry because of injustice it seems: Exodus 21, Exodus 22, Leviticus 20, Numbers 35, Proverbs 8:36, Genesis 18:19, Proverbs 21:3,

    Psalms 73, Jeremiah 27:7-18, Isaiah 58, Isaiah 59, Matthew 25:31-46, James 2,

    Ephesians 6:10-18, Ephesian 4:26, Psalms 82:3, Ecclesiastes 5:8,

    Hopefully these are helpful

Thank you Roy for sharing so intimately about your sin & dilemma in dealing with it.

There are many issues here: your own spiritual condition (i.e. whether you're born again of God's Spirit or not); what you have been taught concerning sin & repentance (e.g. some happily to go weekly into a confessional to present their sins to a priest & receive absolution, having no deep lasting change in heart upon their exit); belief in your eternal security in salvation without a sense of moral & spiritual responsibility to attain to God's high standards; losing the consciousness of the depravity of one's sins because of a perpetual engagement in them, thus creating excuses to continue in them; even dismissing some sins for the satisfaction they give, e.g. maybe in your case, a need for companionship with its resulting emotional & physical pleasure you receive; & etc.

We all have 'besetting' sins: those sin(s) that seem to regularly raise their ugly heads to which we have to either attend to or succumb to. Even taking the sin of 'speaking lies' is all too often a sin that many hardly consider sinful because it is either considered at the 'lower end' of sins or it matters not to God or man. But the spiritual person, walking in constant step with the Spirit, is always aware of their weak area & is on guard & will shun any form of lying because it is sin & it grieves God Who lives in Him. And the same with attraction to the opposite sex: there's always a line that must be drawn that one must stay well behind. Men can easily succumb (some say, that's how we're wired), therefore we must be the more vigilant. To the one 'in Christ', however appealing that can be to our flesh, we must walk away, even run, as Joseph did when enticed (Genesis chapter 39).

I would leave you with 1 John chapter 3, especially noting those given over to sinful or to righteous living; not single acts, but acts wilful, habitual, or of character. But God always provides His resources ( Ephesians 6:10-18).

    Hi Maria,

I'm not aware of anywhere in the Bible addressing your question. I personally believe the answer is no that whatever spiritual things you're experience is specific to you. If you are experiencing spiritual warfare I would choose deliberately the side you want to be on and be prepared. Ephesians 6:17 and around this chapter talks about how to prepare and defend yourself from such battles. Basically dedicating yourself to following Christ, read the Bible regularly, pray, and seek fellowship with other believers is a way to strengthen your faith. Some believe in generational curses and we do live with consequences of curses from Adam and Eve, such as hard work, labor pain, etc. Hope this is helpful in some way.

I tried to respond and lost the verses. Anyway; look at Ephesians 6:17; Romans 13:4; and the earlier warnings to Pergamum for a similar response of God if repentance doesn't occur. There are other verses such as in Isaiah which prophetically speak of the sword of the Lord as it were. Basically; there is the effect on us; as the Spirit of God should pierce our hearts as Luke 2:35 states; and it is also our offensive weapon against the fiery darts of the enemy ( 1 Peter 4:12). These should be a sobering reminder; as the scripture states if we are scarcely saved; what about the ungodly (also in 1 Peter 4). There are some; as in the Corinthian church who have "fallen asleep" and who are "given over to Satan for the destruction of the body so that the soul can be saved." ( 1 Cor. 5:5).

The Lord chastises all He loves; and they will ultimately produce fruit if they are truly saved. He is patient; but will do whatever is necessary for His plans and work in our lives to be accomplished. Truly; we are Christ's great reward for His sufferings (see Isaiah 53:11). He is given ALL authority over heaven and earth; which would be expected being a member of the Godhead. But God chose to bring Him here and to become a man suffering in all ways as we do without sin. This was God's plan and surely we all must die to ourself as the Spirit enables. Psalm 2 indicates how the world will try to break the bonds as it were of the rulership of Christ; but God has the last laugh. Surely the world will have the stone fall on them rather than falling on it.

May we allow the pruning necessary to produce fruit. Praise God that although we were enemies of God He has reconciled us. ( Colossians 1:21). Remember that those who have taken the mark have been predestined to be reprobate as they were not written in the book of the Lamb ( Rev. 13:8).

    Agape.

    Hi Marke,

I've seen your posts before and agreed with many other of your views and felt they were grounded in Biblical truth. So, this is one area we have a difference in how we interpret the scriptures. To me it's 100% clear what the Bible says, and to you I'm sure you're 100% confident also. But our views are very different and are consequential as we're basically discussing the main aspect of Christianity.

So, let me only address just 1 of your points you wrote: "All born-again believers bring forth good fruit and cannot bring forth evil fruit."

Ok, I can see you took that idea from scripture which is great, but I just don't believe your interpretation as I see you're conflating sin with fruit to the point where you are possibly denying a Christian's ability to sin, is that correct?

Paul was a Christian and spoke about his struggles with fleshly desires and temptation to sin. Romans 7:13-25. So, he was a Christian who bore good fruit, yet still talked about his struggle with sin. He had to fight against it. He talked about having on the armor of God and being prepared for spiritual battles: Ephesians 6:10-18. He didn't say, we'll I'm "saved" and my fruit is good so I can do whatever I want. Quite the opposite.

1 John 2:4-6 - this indicates that we Christians continue to have a choice on whether to keep commandments or not. I'm sure you know that Paul's letters were to Christians.

Let me make a clear point. I'm a Christian and read the Bible daily and try to follow Jesus to the best of my ability, but I am imperfect and have temptations to sin just like any other human being. Sin can be fun by nature and I think most people admit to that. If you're so sure that it's impossible for a Christian to sin or do wrong or that we somehow don't have the freewill to, and is impossible to do wrong or to not follow Jesus, does that mean tonight I can choose to go out on the town and commit all kinds of sin that my flesh desires and you think I'll have no consequence?

I also wanted to tell you that I spake of my gratitude for your scriptural help in the 2nd reply by me, to Ms. Donna, who replied to me, here, just above yours. If you see this, Sir or Madam, I hope that you will see how your scriptural knowledge (and listing) may be used by the LORD to help and strengthen others as it has already blessed, helped, MATURED, and will continue to mature and grow me! In your 1 Peter 5:7, scripture, I was reminded of what the REAL struggle may be in Christ, on earth. As a little child, Peter was my favorite disciple/person in the Holy Bible, because I felt--at the time--that he asked a lot of questions. I am not sure if I got that from the scriptures, or an interpretive work (like a play or something that helped illustrate the scriptures).

*I was in a very bad way, and today, again a bit downtrodden, and tempted to being deceived by those same lying, spiritual enemies your listed scripture spoke of in Ephesians 6:10-20. I had begun down a path lead to me questioning the truth of Christ's promise regarding those who endure to the end in Matthew 10:22. I do not know how far I would have gotten--but GOD willed your scripture lists to be seen by me to help me grow and keep me from traveling down the adversary's road to abandoning Christianity. It was GOOD for me to get to see Matthew 10:23-32, because of you, especially verses 23 and 32, because abusers who know some scripture (just like the Devil can quote it too!) try to manipulate GOD's word--I won't list examples, but it is very SICK what a witch that I know (she feigns Christianity to some--denounces it to others) has tried to do with scripture to at least 2 of her victims. GOD spoke to me when I was young in regards to her, but the wicked prosper in wickedness in secret, and the destruction that they wreak in some lives...even with the LORD's miracles in MY life, and the TRUSTWORTHY witness of elder loved ones, my life v. everyone around me...allowed the adversary an in. Thanks!

One of the shortest verses in the bible, Luke 17:32 "Remember Lot's wife." Lot's wife was saved, until at the last minute when she decided to turn around, why she turned around, we don't know, but she did, Genesis 19:26. The devil is in the world constantly tempting us until our last breath, as in Judas who was with Jesus for his entire earthly ministry, or as in

Luke 23:39-43, the one thief on the cross (whom I believe) was the devil tempting Jesus to come down from the cross and save himself, and the other thief on the cross rebuking him and saying that they deserved their punishment, and then asking Jesus to remember him, one was saved one wasn't. This is why it's so important to put on the whole armour of God as in

    Ephesians 6:11-19,

Genesis 19:26 "But his wife looked back from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt."

In Luke 8:11 the seed is the word of God.

    Luke 8:11

Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God.

In Eph 6:17 the sword is the word of God.

    Ephesians 6:17

And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

In Eph 5:26 the water is the word of God.

Baptism in rainwater does not save but baptism in the Holy Spirit and washing in the water of the word of God does save.

    1 Peter 1:23

Dear "Giannis", Too bad you have not experienced a prayer life. Revelation 21:4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.

Ephesians 6:10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.

11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

    14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;

    15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;

16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.

    John 16:5-15

Why was / is the Holy Spirit necessary for God's People?

And much more. How would you explain the text above?

Be blessed dear ones, remember that Jesus loves you and i love u in Christ.

Quite rightly there is no need to argue. Do not think that is what we do either. But a kind of personal conviction on various revelations. We do not take a small baby and put them in the middle of the road, you know. Then it will be hit.

Always be happy and see it this way: We grow a growth and it is from the Lord. All according to His counsel. Psalms 106:13

Ephesians 1:1-14 I will never stop and be thrilled with Paul's welcome greetings in his letters. You're welcome.

We must be thankful for what we have and what we have done for the Lord as He then only knows what is. Amen

Dear "Henry",People can say whatever they want about the Bible. But notice that the Bible is timeless! : D It fits in at all times. Is that nice?

No it is not, for it is Living Word. Be always glad and belive the schripture.

    John 8:31 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;

32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

33 They answered him, We be Abraham's seed, and were never in bondage to any man: how sayest thou, Ye shall be made free?

34 Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin.

35 And the servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the Son abideth ever.

36 If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.

Amen stay blessed in His Holy name Jesus Christ.

    SolaScrip,

The bible says we will never know why The Lord does everything he does until eternity and i believe there was a reason it was changed, but does it really matter what the pastor says while baptizing you because its salvation that gets us to heaven. In conclusion there is on reason to argue over a matter like this.
  • Henry on Ephesians 6 - 2 years ago
    Solascript,

i agree that the bible has never been about logic. Jesus has reasons for all he does he might have done differently that time for a reason the bible says we will never know the reasons for all God does but we do know that the difference in what you say doesn't matter because it is salvation that gets you to heaven not baptism.
