So, when the mother of Ahaziah (Athaliah) "saw that her son was dead", she not only became incensed, but also sought to destroy every possible heir apparent to the throne. But she missed one heir, Joash. He was kept hidden for six years and later became King of Judah. But in the interim (for six years), the wicked mother, Athaliah, reigned over Judah.

Truly God's Will must be established and the antics of the wicked can never in anyway dissuade or stop it from coming to reality.

God has willed that Jehoash will be king at age 7, the antics of Athaliah notwithstanding. She got what she deserved after ordering the killing of innocent people because of her ambition for her son to be king. The lesson for us is not to assume the place of God (play God). Let God's will be done all the time.
