How do you know if your getting called to preached? And how do if god is calling you for something?
  • Chris - In Reply - 2 years ago
Hello Mblancett. I don't believe there is any verse that gives the phrase you're looking for. I suspect this desire or prayer came about when reading about God's Intervention in the lives of the Israelites when they were prisoners in Egypt. If you read Exodus 12:1-13, you may recall this account when the LORD would pass by every house in Egypt and all the firstborn (humans & animals) dwelling in those houses & property would be killed unless they had the blood of the lamb applied to the doorposts & lintel. Of course, the Israelites obeyed the LORD in this & were spared, but the firstborn of the Egyptians were killed.

Just as the blood of the lamb was required for Israel to be spared from death, so those 'in Christ' now are spared eternal death in hell, as the Blood of God's Lamb has been shed & applied for us - ever before our Heavenly Father as a memorial of His pardoning & securing our lives through Jesus His Son. Rather than 'covering our property with the Blood of Jesus', it may be better stated that we could, by prayer, consecrate our homes & all in it or all who visit it, for the Lord's keeping, protection, & blessing. That not only our homes, but our lives as well, may always exude the fragrance of Christ Jesus & be a blessing & witness to all who come near.

I agree with Giannis. John wouldn't have wrote letters to heavenly beings. Angels (messengers).

Hi James. The command to give honor to our parents is to show the respect, love & readiness to be there for them when they find themselves in need. Yet, in some homes sadly, sexual abuse, drunkenness & disorderly behavior can make the child's desire to love or obey the commandment so much more difficult. Fortunately, there are laws for their protection & removal.

Then, as you quoted Matthew 19:29, and I would also submit Luke 14:26, we read of what seems a departure from giving all due love & respect to parents. However, I don't believe Jesus wants those who wholeheartedly follow Him, in maybe some service that takes them far from home, to stop loving or respecting their parents. It's a matter of priority that the Lord gives: He must always be first in our lives - even before family & self. Those who have the call of the Lord upon their lives, can certainly trust Him to care & provide for his or her family; and the family (parents) should certainly understand the burden upon their 'child' to serve & that the Lord will see to all of their needs.

Start at Matthew chapter 6 verse 24+25 , then go to verse 27 , then 31 . Those verses should help you put it all together . Verse 34 is saying , try not to worry too much about tomorrow , get through today , face your challenges one day at a time . Trust in God and He will help you get through your trials . The crux of the matter is in verse 32 , God knows what we need every day , seek God , put Him first in your life and all the things that you need each day will be provided for you by God .

Not all of our , by that I mean gentiles / none Jews , mothers and fathers are Christians . Or even religious at all . The commandment was given to the Israelites and is part of the covenant of Moses , we are not under that covenant , we are part of the new covenant , Christians . We can still honour our parents , even if they are not Christians , we can still treat them with kindness and affection and respect . We , as Christians , should treat everyone with kindness and respect , but , who is King in our hearts ? If our mom or dad said to any of us : I don't want you in my house if you are a Christian ! Give it up or get out ! What would we do ? What do we think God would want us to do ? Would we do it ? So , it's just about treating everyone with kindness and respect but keeping Jesus enthroned in our hearts and anyone who doesn't want to know us because of our faith ? Stay friendly if possible ? If not , so what ? Prioritise , that's all .

I have a serious question. How do we reconcile vs. 29 with the commandment to honor thy mother and father...?

Jesus restates in Matthew 15:4 the importance of this commandment as well as Paul in Ephesians.

Hello everyone, I wish you all a very happy and peaceful new year.

I did some searching here in the early hours Good time, withe the Lord.

Outside minus 15 degrees and up to several cm of snow is expected. There will be extreme conditions for a while again. In the Northern Hemisphere. The Nordic countries.

And I read a wonderful text from the 1611 edition, here in the web. In some ways, the wording could be a little easier for me to understand. Don't ask me how that can be possible! And this wonderful prayer I must share with you, those of you who have read it before and those of you who have not yet come this far (smiley sign). Or should I say, gone that far back in time?

Prayer of Azariah 1 chapter. God bless us all in understanding and revelation. Love u all in Christ.

    John

I would like to add one more thought comes to mind along with what Myself and Brother Jesse has shared.

Fruit is what's produced inward and expressed outward, the cleansing is internally and the action outwardly is caused by this cleansing.

This is what the natural man can not do.

This is what Jesus is telling the Pharisees in Matthew 23:25-26 "Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye make clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and excess.

Thou blind Pharisee, cleanse first that which is within the cup and platter, that the outside of them may be clean also.

This is what Israel could not produce. ( Jeremiah 2:21.)

There was no heart change in the working/covenant of the law.

I believe this is why Jesus says in John 15:1. I AM THE TRUE VINE, and my Father is the husbandman.

This production comes by the new birth or " Born from above" being connected to the life giver.

We are branches baring what the vine produces, being that we're LIVE and attached.

You see the outward result in being a live branch in baptism or "Identified" with Christ mentioned in Romans 6.

    I hope this helps.

    God bless.

That would be a tall order to fill Sharmine - to give a full explanation of Proverbs chapters 1 & 2. But I'll share an outline for you that might be a little useful.

Proverbs 1:1. Clearly, King Solomon is the major Author/contributor. And the meaning of Proverbs: these are the sayings taken from everyday life & intended to serve as practical guidelines for 'successful' living.

Proverbs 1:2-6. Its Purpose is that the reader might know wisdom & allow it to govern his/her life.

Proverbs 1:7. The Theme of the book is that the fear (deep reverence) of the LORD is the starting point and essence of wisdom (and Wisdom is the correct application of knowledge that comes through a right relationship with God).

Proverbs 1:8 to Proverbs 9:18. Show the Precepts of Wisdom (rules to be followed).

    a. 1:8-19 (avoid bad company).

    b. 1:20-33 (to heed Wisdom's advice; wisdom personified as a woman inviting all to come to her & learn).

    c. 2:1-22 (the master teacher describes the joyful results of pursuing & acquiring Wisdom: Wisdom is God-given (vv6,7) & is beneficial as it delivers one from the ways of evil men (vv10-15), from the arms of the adulteress (vv 16-19), and preserves one's life & character (vv 20-22).

Hopefully, this broad outline will help you read & learn these chapters' contents & the reason for their writing.

    Hi Linda

I would like to add to what Brother Chris has shared,

In Hebrews 11:4 it reads "By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain",

Now faith comes by hearing the word of God,

So if Abel offered his sacrifice by faith it seems he was instructed to offer the sacrifice he offered.

BY WHICH HE OBTAINED WITNESS THAT HE WAS RIGHTEOUS, God testifying of his gifts: ( AND BY IT ) he being dead yet speaketh.

It seems God expected obedience from Cain to follow through with a specific command in Genesis 4:7

"If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him.

Cain could have humbled himself and pleaded for forgiveness as Brother Chris said.

It is impossible to please God without faith. Hebrews 11:6.

    God bless.

Hello Linda. Many tend to believe that because Cain did not provide a blood offering, God had rejected it. But I cannot be sure whether at that time a blood sacrifice was mandatory, rather, that God was looking for something else.

Therefore, in Genesis 4:3-5, we read that "the LORD had respect (or, looked upon, attended to) unto Abel and to his offering". I read this as both the offerer & the offering were considered by the LORD whether to be acceptable or not. God was considering Abel, his heart, his motives, his giving, and found him acceptable, as also his offering.

But with Cain, his heart & offering were not right before the LORD, as we see that Cain flew into a rage when God rejected him & the offering. Abel had brought the "firstlings of his flock & its fat", while Cain might have just grabbed whatever 'produce of the ground' that came to his hand, deeming that the sacrificial act was more important than the quality of the sacrifice & of the heart.

Cain, who also walked & talked with God as did his parents, should have rather been humbled by his error & pleaded for forgiveness & sought corrective help. But he walked off in a huff & allowed his anger against the LORD & against his brother to fester, allowing the devil to have his way with him ( Genesis 4:7,8; 1 John 3:12). So, in my understanding of these verses, it seems that the LORD was requiring both the gift & giver to be in an optimal state before Him; unfortunately, Cain failed God, his family & left a murderer & a vagabond.

    Hi John.

You are referring to John 15:1-12.

    1) I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman.

    2) Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.

    3) Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.

The Greek word for purge is kathairo, which means "to cleanse. The Lord cleanses you that you bring forth "BEAR" more fruit.

Some people consider the purging to be pruning, and He does that too, but it really means to cleanse. There is no doubt that the Lord does some pruning. He moves into our lives and takes out those things that offend,

What is important to see here is who is producing the fruit? The answer is in verses 5 and 6.

    4) Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.

    5) I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.

    Verses 6-12.

If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned.

If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.

Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.

As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love.

If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love.

These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.

This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.

I will leave off there so others may add and improve on my reply and perhaps I will join later.

    God bless.

Why did God reject Cain's offering? He was a tiller of the ground - he gave the first fruits of what he had. I do not understand why it was turned away. Thank You . . .
