King David confessed his sin to Nathan, after the story of the poor man's ewe lamb, and was told thou art the man. Then Nathan warned the King, that the sword would never depart from his house. The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life. The child that was born from the adulterous act died after seven days, and God forgave King David for what he had done. If we say we have not sinned, we lie, but if we confess our sin, God is faithful, and just to forgive us, and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. The child is in heaven, and King David knows that he will see the child again in the resurrection. We must learn never to cover our sin, but to confess to God, for He alone can cleanse, as well as forgive our sin. Sin has consequences, but when we confess, as well as forsake our sin, God restores the joy of our salvation. Jesus came to save His people from their sin. In fact Jesus came to seek, and to save the lost. All have sinned, and fallen short of the glory of God, and the Lord laid on Him the sin of us all. So thank God for Jesus!!!
2 Samuel 12:7-15 Principle illustrated: God gives consequences to set David straight because he had sinned against Him. David used the children of Ammon to kill Uriah. David then took Uriah�s wife and bare a son. Nathan, the man who anointed David told him that he has blasphemed the Lord. The Lord struck the child with sickness and the child died. God rebukes His children when they do wrong. I am a living example of this. I have learned that whenever I do not do my best to live for God, consequences follow. It is because God loves me that He leads me back when I stray away. I need to lock my eyes on Him and then I will not be able to stray.
@ SHAUN David knew that he sinned after The Lord had already informed him that his child would die. But Because The Lord forgive him for his sin he thought as all of us would have thought " If i try to become in right standing with God maybe he will have mercy on me and let my baby live."
@Chloe: I beg to differ. David was nothing else than sadistic and cruel. Think of all the Philistines, Moabites and Ammonites he killed. When Saul asked him for 100 Philistine foreskins, he went and killed 200 and brought back 200 foreskins just for the sake of it. So he killed the 100 additional Philistines just for fun?
None of all these people were as intolerant and bloodthirsty towards their neighbours, and unfortunately this tradition lived on in the whole Christian history.
I was thinking, the old testament and today have so much in common. that is like come chistians today we want to do what we want but as soon as we find ourselves in trouble or things go wrong we do what we think will please God and god is still telling us we will still have to be punished for our actions. Instead of seeking God before we act we seek him after. We the church need to get our priorites and lives in order with the word of God. God is still calling for Holliness and for his people to be set apart from the world know matter what is going on around us or what we see happening in the church. We can not include any and everything in our lives or in the lives of our loved ones.
Davis besought God for the life of his child. He loved his child. With hope of saving his child's life he fasted and prayed, if in fact God would save the child's life. God had already said the child would die....but Davis did what he thought God would be pleased with to change that outcome.
