7I watch, and am as a sparowe alone vpon the house top. 8Mine enemies reproch me all the day: and they that are mad against me, are sworne against me. 9For I haue eaten ashes like bread: and mingled my drinke with weeping. 10Because of thine indignation and thy wrath: for thou hast lifted me vp, and cast me downe. 11My dayes are like a shadow, that declineth: & I am withered like grasse.

102:9 Bread - The sense is, dust and ashes are as familiar to me as the eating of my bread; I cover my head with them; I sit, yea, lie down in them, as mourners often did.
