Hello Imoh Etuk. Nahash was the king over the Ammonites ( 1 Samuel 12:12). Jabeshgilead was a city located in northern Gilead, in a section that was assigned to Manasseh (a son of Joseph, who was the son of Jacob). The Ammonites were a kindred race to the Moabites coming from the same ancestor, Lot. So they believed that a portion of their territory had been robbed from them by Israel & in the days of the Judges, they continually harrassed Israel, so Israel went to war with them. The Judge, Jephthah defeated them with a great slaughter ( Judges 11:4-13, 28-33).
So with this great defeat & disgrace in mind, & the prophet Samuel now ageing, Nahash of the Ammonites, thought to attempt to strike back again ( 1 Samuel 11:1). But this time, the men of Jabeshgilead weakened & desired to make a covenant with the Ammonites. The Ammonites would comply if they would first blind the right eyes of all the people, maybe as retribution for the previous slaughter. This proviso wouldn't do of course, so they sent for help & one Saul was moved with anger & then mustered up a great company of fighters. These men came to battle on the following day & slaughtered the Ammonites & those who escaped were very few ( 1 Samuel 11:11). And it was soon after this, that Saul was crowned king over Israel.
The Lord proves His anointing on Saul through Saul's first military campaign. God imparted great wisdom and knowledge unto Saul in dealing with this situation. Saul plans and leads the armies of the Lord forward to victory, and the people are happy to accept him as God's anointed.
Many times I fail to follow Christ fully until there is a victory in my life. But sadly, I fall away again. May I learn to trust God fully in all things, at all times. Happy 4th everyone.
It was the spirit of God that acted through Saul in order to accomplish this victory over the Ammonites vs.6. Saul even acknowledge this fact in vs.13.
Lesson: Always acknowledge God's help, privately and/or publicly, in all our victories. We should never seek to praise ourselves and boast because without God, we are nothing. Same with salvation, we can not get ourselves saved whenever we feel like. The 3 parts of God's salvation plan is all the work of God and God alone. Part 1: Who are chosen. Part 2: Who paid for sins. And part 3: Who will resurrect the dead. GOD AND GOD ALONE. God bless you
Michelle Ann; This was a glorious moment in the story of Saul, and speaks also of the Day when Jesus shall be once and for all reconciled to His flesh and blood Brethren the House of Israel, and will not put anyone to death for their past sins and stubbornness and unbelief; for it will be a Day of Reconciliation and Salvation! Wonderful things to think about!
VERSE 13: The elders have a better experience than the younger men. Fortunetunately, advises from the elders are profitable, and help us to avoid to listen to our own understanding. Because of the elders' aid the men of Jabesh, and the covenant was unfulfilled with Ammonite.
one thing that grieves me is how well King Saul begun and how disastrous his end was. My prayer for those who have had an encounter with the holy spirit keep the hunger and thirst keeps the fear of God in us The backsliding Spirit took him
Remember God had given him a new heart, but the new heart returned to the old nature later in life to the point of God rejecting him and turning him reprobate.
So much goes through our minds as we read this chapter! Samuel knew why God sent him to make Saul the king of Israel; because the People had rejected God as their King, and they envied the heathen nations around them. But the LORD gave them allowance anyway, so long as their king would be the man of God to lead them to victory over their enemies. Oh what could have been if Saul had been that man!
Verse 13: Saul could have taken revenge against those who insulted him, but he was a humble king here who was grateful for the salvation of Jehovah God.
I have to say,so many people were taught by GOD himself or through others but did not seek for it,only in their own convience, and so many today are seeking GOD and would have loved to have a chance to know him like they got to,it's amazing how we get use to OUR ways even when GOD was there,so what does it take now adays for people to see HIS way instead of their own?,most do NOT think he is REAL!.

When the Holy Spirit influences a man's decisions, great results are achieved. As soon as the Spirit of God came upon Saul, he exhibited holy anger that steered up the people and in turn caused the fear of God to come upon them. Oh, that we will allow the Spirit of God influence us to the extent that His fear will be upon men! Then shall men depart from iniquity because of the fear of God.
1 Samuel 11 13. And Saul said, There shall not a man be put to death this day for to day the LORD hath wrought salvation in Israel. Saul had mercy on those who stood against him, and so should we.
